Is anyone watching Home Fires Series 2 which started on 3 April?

I didn't see any of the first series so am not sure whether to forget it and just join in now - or would anyone recommend getting hold of Series 1 first? If the programme is any good I'd prefer to enjoy the lot from the beginning. Thanks.

Oh how sad sad. I liked him, such a gentle, unassuming man.

LullyDully Mon 09-May-16 12:56:34

Apparently it was the doctor's house. Looks like the butcher may be dead.

Greyduster Mon 09-May-16 12:20:15

I doubt if it could be the pilot who absconded - they would have him locked up waiting for a disciplinary hearing. Are they likely to have patted him on the head and said "never mind, we need pilots. Here's a plane, go back and do your bit"? But this is fiction and if it serves the storyline...... I think France's will suddenly become totally besotted with small children and turn her house into an orphanage! hmmsmile!

Welshwife Mon 09-May-16 12:08:04

It could well be too soon for the young pilot to have been back on active service as it were.
They may have left so many story lines unfinished because they are not sure who will sign up for the next series!!!!

gillybob Mon 09-May-16 11:34:45

Oh I didn't put 2 and 2 together about the plane crash and the young pilot Sarah was hiding. You could be right Indiana although "tidying this up" next year would be rather pointless wouldn't it?

Indinana Mon 09-May-16 10:55:48

Oh, and of course, what will become of Frances Barden? Will she have to sell her house, now that she'll have no income? And then what about Alison? How will she be able to stay in the village and live with the guilt of what she has (unwittingly and unwillingly) done?
There is a heck of a lot of material for a third series, so they'd better get their fingers out and commission one!

Indinana Mon 09-May-16 10:51:10

I'm inclined to agree with you there gillybob. There were far too many unfinished storylines - it's usual to leave a bit of mystery to be resolved in a future series, but this was just a little over the top.
-There's the baby - did its father die in the crash as mcem has suggested? Were any of the others in the house injured? Was it, in fact, the doctor's house the plane crashed into - if not, whose house and who was in it at the time?
-Who was the pilot? Did he die? Could it possibly have been the young mentally scarred pilot that Sarah had been hiding?
-What happens to Pat now? Will Marek think she has abandoned him because she (apparently) didn't reply to his letters? Will Marek return, or will he be reported missing in action? Actually, if the latter, Pat would probably never find out, not being a relative. Will she throttle Bob? grin. Now that I'd like to see!!!
When a series ends, I really think it should end IYSWIM. This series seemed to finish in mid-sentence! confused

gillybob Mon 09-May-16 10:20:19

I was very disappointed with the ending and couldn't quite get it. It was as though there was half an hour missing from the end. I appreciate that there will be another series but leaving so many pieces of the jigsaw out, made for very poor viewing.

Welshwife Mon 09-May-16 09:33:00

It can get even more confusing Merlot when there are a few similar type series on - sometimes I choose not to watch a series as I fear I will become even more confused - and that is without the same actors being in more than one series at the same time.!! grin

merlotgran Mon 09-May-16 09:22:49

Great to see Pat stand up to her evil, bullying husband but where will she go now?

I'm also keen to follow Noah's future. Reminds me of Lark Rise to Candleford when the postmistress (can't remember her name) adopted the lovely Sidney.

Have you noticed a pattern emerging on these TV threads?

We can't remember a bloody thing grin

mcem Mon 09-May-16 08:05:41

Moments earlier the butcher was looking from the window of the doctor's house at the descending plane so I'm assuming he died just as his baby was born.

Welshwife Mon 09-May-16 07:50:37

I had forgotten about the fabric supply bit being so complicated - was it a Policaman the accountant lady was talking to about there being no charges? I could do with seeing those bits - how the factory started getting the substandard stuff - again.
The baby was born in the doctor's house - was that the one with the front porch? It seemed to end so suddenly.

ninathenana Mon 09-May-16 07:19:31

Ana I think you must have nodded of the closing scene was of the plane embedded in the front of a house smile
I had visions of it landing on the hall where the wedding was. Apart from the Pat, Bob, Marek triangle. I want to see how the factory owner will cope with downsizing smile and will she keep Noah.

Bellanonna Sun 08-May-16 22:48:50

I shall feel bereft on a Sunday night now. No Durrells, no Home Fires.
No, they can't just leave it there. I'd like to see Bob get his come-uppance, and Pat her happiness with Marek.

Indinana Sun 08-May-16 22:45:30

Noooooo! There just has to be a third series, tanith! I will never, ever trust ITV again if they leave it there sad

Marelli Sun 08-May-16 22:35:11

What a cliffhanger! The thing is, by the time the next series comes along, I'll have completely forgotten most of the story. confused

tanith Sun 08-May-16 22:33:18

Indinana I was reading on Twitter that the 3rd series hasn't even been commissioned yet, I can't imagine that they wouldn't make a follow up series.

Indinana Sun 08-May-16 22:27:12

Oops, rogue space prevented the italics!!! That'll teach me to post without previewing grin

Indinana Sun 08-May-16 22:26:24

^ thought it had knocked a chimney off one, then crashed into the front of another^
Yes, that's what I think happened. I don't know which house it was, but we could hear the new born baby's cries, so I think it possibly was where the baby was born.

And yes, Cherrytree, it was the last episode of this series. Bummer. How on earth are we meant to wait till next May to find out what happened? shock

tanith Sun 08-May-16 22:23:45

It was embedded in the front of a house but not sure which one.. but the baby was definitely crying somewhere.

Coolgran65 Sun 08-May-16 22:23:06

""""perhaps Bob will fall into the canal.""""

or get a wee push smile

Cherrytree59 Sun 08-May-16 22:22:22

Was that the last episode in this series?

Marelli Sun 08-May-16 22:17:52

I thought it had knocked a chimney off one, then crashed into the front of another, ana.

merlotgran Sun 08-May-16 22:16:42

Didn't it crash into the front of a house?

Not sure which one though.

Ana Sun 08-May-16 22:12:38

No. It didn't crash on a house, just knocked the chimney off one.
