Is anyone watching Home Fires Series 2 which started on 3 April?

I didn't see any of the first series so am not sure whether to forget it and just join in now - or would anyone recommend getting hold of Series 1 first? If the programme is any good I'd prefer to enjoy the lot from the beginning. Thanks.

Yes I agree with merlotgran, please don't preach at us via fictional TV prorammes.

I think/know you're right Jalima, it was just wishful thinking on my part!! Another year?!! We shall all have forgotten who they are by then, never mind the storyline!!

Jalima Wed 11-May-16 10:35:07

I don't think Bob could have been in there whichever house it was because Pat left him in the hall and he couldn't have got there before she did.
Unfortunately - that would be too convenient

Dgd here today, will try to look and sort it out tonight (Will re-read your post first!)

I think it was because they filmed from above, a different angle, made it confusing.

It was too much of a cliffhanger to leave for a year.

Do post your opinion Jalima

nigglynellie Wed 11-May-16 09:07:05

Doesn't she just! Maybe this is what Marek can see?!

Pat looks quite different here:

I recorded the last two episodes and have only just watched them. It was confusing at the end, so I am going to watch the plane crash again with anniebach's post in front of me too and try to work it out!! grin

I agree, that they left too many loose ends for the end of a series.

Could certainly do with several more episodes in each run. As it is it finishes just as you're really getting involved.

merlotgran Tue 10-May-16 19:57:52

I think I was half way through the second series before I really worked out who was who. By the time we get to series three I'll need reminding again.

Its written like a soap -lots of different storylines running - but presented as a short drama series. Needs new writers or a very much longer run.

I felt quite limp by the end of that episode. I haven't been that gripped by a drama series for ages (Well only Wolf Hall - and I knew what was going to happen in that) One thing I have really loved is Pat's relationship with Marek. A slightly overweight, middle aged lady, no make up, frumpy forties dresses and she's the object of someone's desire! Think what Hollywood would have made of it, somebody's idea of period costume showing plenty of flesh, inches thick make up and she couldn't be a day over 25 or an inch over size 8. How refreshing to see characters who look like real people.

Totally lost on a Sunday night now though!

It was an untidy ending. Loose ends everywhere

merlotgran Mon 09-May-16 18:17:24

He saw it coming so maybe he had time to dive for cover.

Hope so.

I did check it on Google, episode synopsis, and they say it was the doctor's house and the butcher was in the front room.

Anniebach Mon 09-May-16 17:35:40

Take your pick Welshwife , grin

I can't even remember most of the characters names , I had a sneaky look , I always record in case the telephone rings during the programme

Welshwife Mon 09-May-16 17:30:23

Annie were you an estate agent in a previous life?!!!!! I am amazed at the detail you remember or have you had another sneaky look at a recording?

Anniebach Mon 09-May-16 16:45:48

We know Pat lives next door to the doctor , both houses have porches, Pat's porch had a side entrance , the house with a porch with a front entrance must be the doctors, as Pat approached the scene the porch with the front entrance was standing but on fire , the window of that house looked undamaged , but Pat's porch had a wall running along side and the bombed house didn't , so I have no idea really but think Pats house , the distance shot showed what could not have been more then two properties . One front window seems too small for s doctors house and surgery , so Pat's house and half the doctors house ?

nigglynellie Mon 09-May-16 16:20:41

Maybe it was Pats house and Bob had nipped home to grab a stick to beat her with and been killed?!!!!! Almost certainly the pilot was dead else he would have tried to avoid hitting a built up area at all costs. The pilot of my father's plane did this when they crashed in Holland, and managed to ditch in a field away from property. I know this as the granddaughter of the farmer told me how her Grandad as a boy of 16 watched as the blazing aircraft was descending and that it was obvious that the crew were doing their utmost to avoid the farm and the village. This pilot had he been alive would have done the same.

Anniebach Mon 09-May-16 16:03:59

I was confused after watching it, now I am more confused grin I thought it was Pat's house, I did recorded it so shall take a peep at the end

ninathenana Mon 09-May-16 16:03:48

I asked as to why the pilot didn't ditch in the fields he flew over before the village. There by sacrificing himself for the sake of everyone.
H said he was probably all ready dead

nigglynellie Mon 09-May-16 15:51:48

Maybe a red herring and it's not the doctors house after all! Clutching straws here probably, but you never know!! I can't believe that's the last episode in this series! Surely they'll be one or two more, after all we're only in 1940! five more years to go and so many loose ends! As for Marek and Pat, how she'll find out where he's gone goodness knows! Perhaps Bob got blown up by the Spitfire, somehow?!!!!

Indinana Mon 09-May-16 15:27:15

Yes, these scenes aren't usually inserted for no reason are they?

merlotgran Mon 09-May-16 15:17:53

He wouldn't have been at that end of the house if they hadn't told him to go away from the door because he was shouting out 'advice' on how to give birth hmm

I did wonder if there was a point to all that.

LullyDully Mon 09-May-16 15:12:49

Yes. We will all need a reminder before the next series with so many loose ends.
