Bill was such a comfort, lovely voice and cheeky manner if appropriate.
But put Charlie and Naga together and the temperature drops considerably!! Bill had a way of matching to whoever he shared the sofa with. His chemistry was spot on.
Only ever watched Eamonn Holmes and his wife on t'other side once - once was enough!! She mocked him for having a head-cold, calling it man-flu, and berating him for being grumpy - s00000 embarrassing to watch. Are they still there?
And now James Martin is leaving Saturday Kitchen!!
Happy retirement, Bill, like us you will wonder how you had time to go to work at all!!

I will miss Bill, what a shame strident Naga & simpering, giggling Louise Minchin aren't going as well.

I do like Bill, I didn't watch it very often but I will miss him.

I missed seeing him when he did a tour giving a talk on his beloved bees, and I'm hoping that he will find time to do another one.

Petra I love your idea smile

Hopefully he could take over everything that Alan Titmarsh does.

Me too. I really did enjoy seeing Bill in the mornings and will miss him.
I wish him well in his new life in the countryside with his bees and his wife and dogs. But apparently we might be seeing him on something now and then,- I hope so.

I loved him too and will miss him.

I wonder if he's got grandchildren?
Maybe he could be invited on here to answer questions etc?

I shall miss Bill either him or Charlie got me off to work for years with proper news and since retiring have watched him from my warm bed with a cup of tea. I've given up on BBC Breakfast now Bill's gone - too much sport, too much presenters going to factories etc., to wear hard hats and high vis vests giggle, mispronounce and teeter around in too tight dresses and too high heels and generally the whole show is too Blue Peter for me. I have Classic FM on the radio instead.

I saw Dan Walker take over once recently, either a Saturday or Sunday and I thought that he was very good- pleasant, polite, friendly and I did admire his clothes. I also thought that Charlie Stayt would work Mon- Wed, Bill's days and somebody else would take over Charlie's days. Does that mean that Dan is giving up his sport presenting?

We didn't see a present on air Tricia but I'm sure they did. We did see a cake in the form of him sitting on the red sofa which was well made.
I will miss Bill, he has the right balance of cheeky humour and the necessary sincerity when needed.

Surely Bill Turnbull must be most people's favourite Old Etonian. He doesn't conform to the stereotype. He'll be a hard act to follow.

I'll miss Bill with the news and my morning cuppa he is such a professional but kind and not stuffy with it. I'm not sure about Dan Walker either I always think Charlie and Mike Bushell are so similar I'd be happy with either of them taking over. Bill is going to present a new Quiz show in the Spring called Think Tank.

TriciaF Fri 26-Feb-16 12:27:44

BTW, did they give him a leaving present? I missed the end of the show.

TriciaF Fri 26-Feb-16 12:26:47

I'll miss him too - I don't watch much TV but try to see the early morning news every day.He has a good sense of fun, more than any of the others.
But he deserves a rest, I wouldn't enjoy getting up at 4am to get to work.

I love Bill and will really miss him. Not sure about Dan Walker in his place, I'd have liked to see Charlie take over and John Kay replace Charlie.

I can't believe quite how much it disconcerts me when a presenter leaves?! Catching up on the news in the morning is such a part of my routine. Silly, I know. I still miss Sian Williams actually - I thought her and Bill together were really good. There's a great pic of him earlier in his career here.
