When visiting my son in USA in September I watched the first debate between the republican candidates. It was all very interesting the whole three hours.
Trump won hands down. Why? Because he says what the general public are thinking. The problem is he cannot follow up his out landish statements. If he could then he may have a chance. BUT he has a very large following no matter how outrageous you think he is, still one to watch

The American people elected George W. Bush to be President only once – the second time, which, in some ways, is actually more worrying than their electing him twice. The first election was riddled with hanging chads, wrongly disenfranchised electors, the inclusion of military votes after the expiry date, an inadequate number of polling venues in some particular areas that then closed while people were still queuing to vote, misleading official looking documents that gave the wrong date for the election, a Bush relative calling the election for George W. on Fox News and other malfeasance.

An awful lot of ordinary Americans do seem to worship him, even quite intelligent ones. I've got a very well educated and well travelled Facebook friend who fondly imagines that all of Europe is waiting breathlessly for Trump to bring the USA to our rescue! If I try to suggest that actually we aren't she says that no one who doesn't live in the US is qualified to comment.

They did reckon last week on The Today Programme that he couldn't get enough votes. Let's hope they are right. He is getting more than his fair share of publicity sadly .He doesn't have any political experience, how can he take such a position?

Hillary is the voice of reason but I don't get a vote.

If America votes Trump in it will be a very very bad day for humanity, Trumph is not human in my books.
I have lovely Mexican friends, their country has problems of course but so does ours. Trump is not liked there as you can quite understand.

It all beggars belief. Heaven knows how intelligent thoughtful Americans must be feeling. If he gets his thumb on the nuclear button we might just as well all give up now. sad

Isn't there another Bush in the running too? Don't know which is worse.

I think Trump will win the Republican nomination.

Not sure he would win against Clinton. Sometimes I wonder whether he would actually want to be President. Not enough salary amongst other things.
I think winning is his goal. Rather the actual prize.

Agree with you Anya.

I'd like to believe it won't happen Whitewave but any nation that'll elect George W. Bush twice ain't to be trusted......shock

whitewave Wed 27-Jan-16 11:20:57

I am sure it won't happen, but imagine a world with Trump and Putin shock Both as mad as March Hares.

Apparently for the first time ever USA voters are dividing along class lines. Working class for Trump and Students and educated middle class for the Democrats particularly the chap (senior moment I can't remember his name) But after all the flurry I am betting on Clinton. Of course a year is a long time in politics.

Did anyone see the programme about Trump last night and what did you think?
I found the whole idea of him becoming the next president very disturbing, and that crazy Sarah Palin!
