I can't look at anything about series 5 #stillnotseenit sad...

rosesarered Mon 25-Jan-16 14:36:12

Yes, the house that the Warig were attacking seemed to be made of a bit of
Wattle without the daub! they could have set it alight easily, so why didn't they? Also, why was the one horse left outside, they took all the others?
Why didn't the Warig surrounding the burial ground shoot 'Sean Bean' with an arrow, instead they just wailed while he set fire to the burial place. So many questions!A very poor episode.

Sorry about the links showing up like that - missed those pesky extra spaces, They still work though.

The GOT titles must cost a fortune - we never fast forward through them. I found a GOT thread from last month, so I've posted the links for Series 6 on there to resurrect the thread so we're not hijacking this one. It's here -

GOT Thread

Yes; I felt the same about last nights episode. I wonder if they used the same people to do the title sequence? The thing about GoT's is that the title sequence changes to encompass the new lands. The minute you hear the music you're 'in the zone'...

WilmaKnickersfit Mon 25-Jan-16 12:18:45

Tegan you're right, the producers of GOT do know how the book series ends. The last series went beyond the published books and was the first not to stick roughly to the books. So now the book readers no longer know what's going to happen - and it's killing me LOL! grin Peter Dinklage has won at least one Emmy (TV Oscar) for his performance. Although the show has now won loads of Emmys, he's the only individual actor to win.

HannahLoisLuke we mean the production style has been copied from GOT, even the title sequence and music is pinched from GOT, both of which won awards when the show started. The GOT titles are stunning and the music very recognisable -sticks in your head! grin

The first trailers for the new series are out

If anyone reading this thread is thinking about watching GOT for the first time, you need to watch from the start or you won't follow what's going on. wink

If there isn't already a GOT thread, I think I will start one.

Back to Beowulf, I thought last night's episode was much weaker than the first three. If that had been the first time I'd watched, I wouldn't have bothered watching again. The scenes based around the Warig attacking the house and the graveyard were pathetic. The 3 little pigs could have blown down the house! Hope it picks up again next week because it's suddenly become very predictable. sad

My daughter bought me series one to se if I'd like it and I was hooked right from the start. When I've watched the whole series I then watch the 'making of' section and marvel at why they filmed scenes in such a way or why they changed a particular character. There are homages to different things; Ray Harryhausen [sp] films in one episode etc. You love the characters so much but never know which ones will survive sad. However, it's very very bloodthirsty. They use a lot of classically trained English actors [eg Charles Dance] but the best of all is the casting of Peter Dinklage as Tyrion. They also only use blue screen/green screen when absolutely necessary and it makes such a difference [a lot of film producers have realised that in recent years also]. Even the wolves and bears are 'real' [not the dragons though, although I'm sure they would have used real ones if they could!!].

I haven't watched either Beowolf or Game of Thrones but noticed that many comments are saying its a cheap copy of GOT. Since the poem of Beowolf dates back to Saxon times I think it's the other way round!

I do know that GOT is hugely popular so maybe I'm missing something?

Stansgran Thu 21-Jan-16 16:01:40

DH says it was filmed at Eastgate in Co Durham. If you've been there says it all.

George RR Martin has, I believe given the GOT's producers an outline of what is going to happen in the end, just in case he doesn't get to finish the series of books. When I've watched series 5 I'm going to ask my daughter if I can see series 6 at her house; I can't wait another year to watch it....She tells me that series 5 took a while to get going. I could watch it on the computer but I have to watch it on a big screen late at night and when no one is likely to try to chat to me when it's on..[meaning the S.O.]...I'm counting the days to the release of the dvd and know I'll shut myself away for a week and watch it non stop. I'm not addicted..honest blush....!

Greyduster Thu 21-Jan-16 09:30:31

I watched two episodes of Beowolf yesterday and thought it was a mildly entertaining load of tosh with barely a nodding acquaintance to the original story. Why is it called "Return to the Shieldlands"? Has there been a previous series i've missed? I have never watched GoT but am told by just about everyone (including DS) that it is brilliant.

WilmaKnickersfit Wed 20-Jan-16 23:08:07

Maisie Williams who plays Arya Stark is one GOT star who is a regular on the red carpet here in the UK. She's clearly being asked about Jon Snow on every occasion and trying really hard not to let the cat out of the bag! Hopefully we'll start getting trailers teasing us with the new series. wink

I was a bit annoyed at George RR Martin admitting we wouldn't get the next book this year either. Not surprised, but annoyed because he's got so many other projects on the go and like so many others, I'm worried he'll die without finishing the series. The last book was rushed out without being properly edited and should have been shorter. When you wait years between books, you want them to be right.

Sorry for going off topic.

WilmaKnickersfit Wed 20-Jan-16 22:55:06

It's definitely budget version of a GOT clone and tbh I laughed when I saw the title sequence. Don't think I have ever seen such a derivative piece of work in TV. It's like a cheap cut down version. And I wouldn't be surprised if the actor playing Beowulf was chosen as a low budget Sean Bean. You can just hear the producers discussing the proposal for the idea for the show! They're always looking for a copy of something successful! grin

grannylyn65 Wed 20-Jan-16 20:41:02

Me too Roses!

rosesarered Wed 20-Jan-16 20:31:20

Seen all GOT up to now, am waiting for series six to start on tv.

rosesarered Wed 20-Jan-16 20:30:27

I think everything about this programme is a copy of GOT. even the music and graphics at the start.Yes, the main character is more or less Sean Bean as his character in GOT isn't he??
still, it's not bad and worth watching.

Tegan Wed 20-Jan-16 16:41:31

The actor playing Beowolf is like a young Sean Bean....

WilmaKnickersfit Wed 20-Jan-16 02:53:38

It's quite good - keeping me guessing anyway! grin

Tegan Tue 19-Jan-16 23:58:30

Just rewatched it all as I couldn't work out who was who; really enjoying it. I know it's a poor man's Game of Thrones but it's keeping me going till series 5 comes out on dvd in March.

cornergran Sat 09-Jan-16 05:38:37

Surprised but I enjoyed itv assumed it would be one for DH to watch alone.

WilmaKnickersfit Sat 09-Jan-16 01:17:29

It wasn't bad at all and we'll watch the second episode. Wasn't sure what it would be like tbh.

Tegan Sun 03-Jan-16 16:34:12

Starting tonight at 7; glad I looked it up cause I assumed it would be on later. Looking forward to it.
