Here, Here, Iam64, it was totally satisfactory, a good result in every respect!. I loved Daisy's haircut too, also Mrs Patmore clearly had 'expectations' with Mr Mason! another happy event in the offing!!!

I loved it too just caught up with it. Very cheesy ending but at least everyone walked on into their futures with smiles, a happy ending indeed.

I loved it, just the thing after a busy week and Christmas Day. I enjoyed the loose ends being brought to satisfactory, even happy conclusions. I was pleased to see Mr Barrow see the light and choose happiness over negative trouble making. Redemption and a resolution to sisterly rivalry, what's not to enjoy. I also liked Daisy's hair cut and Carsons somewhat reluctant acceptance that as he'd trained Thomas, he must be up to the job. Kindly toffs ?

Where did anyone say they didn't like either program
I loved them both, if I hadn't then I know where the off button is.

I prefer to believe that Lady Mary felt guilty about scuppering her sister's chances with Bertie in the first place and wanted to make amends, but of course others are perfectly entitled to remain convinced that her motives were purely selfish.

But untill Lady Edith married she was the financial responsibility of Lady Mary and if her business had failed she would have to return to Downton and remain there untill the end if her days

If I come across a programme I don't like I just stop watching it - why prolong the agony?

Exactly, so I don't think it was ulterior motive that provoked Mary to arrange for Edith and Bertie to meet up again. In fact in the end there was hope by Mary of a better understanding between these sisters.

Lady Edith had been going to live in and work in London anyway, so Mary had no need to go to the lengths of setting her and Bertie up on a date in the hope that they'd get married just to get her out of the house!

Master Bates being born in Lady Mary's bed was perhaps slightly improbable!! as was the change of heart by the prospective MIL of lady Edith! but all in all, a very satisfactory outcome!!

Lady Mary was true to form, she found a way to get Edith out of the house

I enjoyed it it was as lovely end to a lovely day even if it did rain here all day was happy to see the 2 sister get on a bit better gives me hope for my 2 bickering dd

I agree with those who like me, enjoy a happy ending. Yes it was cheesy, yes it was predictable and yes I enjoyed it very much.

I even quite warmed to the hateful Lady snotty pants Mary.

I was glad Thomas got the butlers job. One in the nose for Mr Carson.

And the birth of MasterBates was the icing on the cake.

I absolutely agree. I think we're all allowed a bit of escapism on this one day of the year! Its was nice to be able to smile in both programmes, after all Downton was only make believe, and Call the Midwife is allowed to be hopeful just this once!!

Too syrupy? Predictable?

Yes, doubtless. But I wouldn't have had it any other way. So much gloom and doom in the world at the moment, so any 'happy ever afters' are OK by me.

I liked the way all the loose ends were neatly tied up. Too many real disasters in life. Nice to have some satisfying escapism. Full marks from me. Call the Midwife? Cloying but watchable only at Christmas really.

Not obligatory to watch it , not obligatory to say it was a great production.

Why would anyone want a disaster? How miserable is that!! It was great, particularly the puppy!!! Call the midwife? Great too! Too syrupy? probably was a bit, but no one makes anyone watch it ? It wasn't obligatory, and there were plenty of more serious intellectual programmes on offer.

I was pleased to see a happy ending. If you think that was syrupy what about Call the Midwife

Watched it, but all very predictable. I did like the touch about the start of the Talbot motor company!
