Have been to see it today in 3D awesome special effects. I too laughed in places, yes the plot isn't great but none of us cared.

I agree Ana, went to see the original ones back in the '70s didn't like them then. Had to sit through the first of the prequels with the kids, hated it. Wild horses wouldn't drag me this time, science fiction isn't my thing either.

I haven't seen any of the Star Wars films, nor do I intend to. Not my type of thing at all - each to their own! smile

Couldn't disagree more! I saw it yesterday and hated it. Noise, explosions, very thin plot, far far too many chases etc. I had gone because I'd seen some of the actors on Graham Norton and it sounded like it was going to be more interesting and people focused than more recent ones. I was just left wondering what was wrong with people if they liked that sort of thing. Jean Brodie had it right 'for people who like that sort of thing, that is the sort of thing they like.' I certainly did not.

I went to see this today with DH, GS and his parents. WOW! Okay the screenplay had more holes in it than a swiss cheese, but the special effects were awesome, there were bits that made me laugh out loud, bits that brought tears to my eyes and bits that had me so far on the edge of my seat i was almost on the floor! It is quite long, but it is very fast paced, (i heard one young man say, when we were leaving, he found it hard to follow what was going on) so you don't really notice the length. Great film! I may go and see it again - in 3D!

From what I've heard it isn't too long [a fault with the more recent films imo]; it has been filmed to look 'old' [Super 8 sort of stuff] and there's less computer generated imagery [another fault with the recent films]. And the young actors are brilliant. We're going to see the last Hunger Games film on Tuesday but I'm beginning to wish we were seeing this.

My family are taking me on Christmas Eve. Can't wait. The GSs are just the right age to enjoy it. I well remember taking my DSs to the first film many years ago.

I've got someLego from the film, and a little robot thingie, for DGS2, but you won't get me near the film. Wouldn't be able to follow the plot and it would be a right racket too.

We are going to see it on Tuesday, glad to hear it's worth making the effort!

DD has been to see it today; says it's absolutely amazing. Anyone else seen it yet?
