KatyK, I am sure Lona will say the same , seeing him live was just fantastic and even in the Albert Hall one had a feeling he was singing directly to you , so skinny yet that smile , he filled the stage , his diction perfect , I read he said he had learned his breathing whilst singing technique was learned during his time with Dorsy,he didn't wait for a pause to take a breath, he would do it in the middle of a line yet it isn't noticeable

Warning to all Sinatra fans, if you want a toe curling moment go on utube and see and hear Peter Andre sing ' Fly Me To The Moon' he has brought out a Sinatra tribute CD , it really is awful

Annie How fantastic to have seen him live. I wish I had. We went to New York a few years ago and when we were on the subway we saw a sign for trains to Hoboken where he was born. I would love to have gone there but sadly we didn't have time.

He was the best , several come a close second but Francis Albert Sinatra stands alone at the very top for me

"I'm a fool to want you" is my melancholy favourite, but there aren't many that I don't enjoy.

The only problem I have with Francis is my favourite song keeps changing , depends on my mood, love New York, it's happy, and on my oldest LP from the forties - no I didn't buy it - I love 'All Or Nothing at All'

Of course he was a one off.Michele Buble is good,I like him a lot.
The trouble today is nobody seems to be able to write anything good and melodic.Modern (so called )music is rubbish.Anything decent is usually a remix.

I love the recordings he made with Nelson Riddle, who was an orchestral genius, and with the Billy May orchestra. He did his best work with them. 'Moonlight in Vermont' is a great favourite of mine, and 'Witchcraft'.

Bob Dylan is a genius, I shall buy that CD, so want to hear his rendition of Autumn Leaves. Which is one of my favourite Sinatra songs , thank you Tricia

I agree, he was exceptional.
Even Bob Dylan admired him enough to make a CD recently of Sinatra songs ( don't laugh, it's quite pleasant, Bob managed to find a voice again.) There's a list on this link:

He was a "one off" Annie, no other comes close for me.

If I was in her good books my grandmother would let me play her Frank Sinatra 78s on their ancient gramophone. I think his early recordings were so much better than all the later ones like 'My Way'

I've always loved Sinatra, and I got to see him perform once in London. I don't think I spoke for hours! I was totally entranced.

Yes KatyK, Sinatra had that extra something and the emotion in his voice , fantastic

I loved Frank. We've been to see Tony Bennett a few times and he always tells the same stories about Sinatra He also always mentions Michael Buble as being someone he admires these days. I like
Michael Buble's voice but, in my opinion, hasn't quite got what Frank had.

I liked his songs and the way he sang but not his voice. I preferred Perry Como, Sammy Davis Junior and loved Bing Crosby's voice. Michael Buble seems a nice enough chap but doesn't have a 'style' of his own as the older ones did. Actually Tom Jones is pretty good too.

During a few days' break between final exams, I was feeling extremely low, but as I mooched along the street, through someone's basement window came the sound of Sinatra singing 'You Make Me Feel so Young' which perked me up so much that I made a snap decision to get on a train for home just for a couple of nights to get my bearings again. Thanks to Sinatra, the rest is history.

Yes I agree with Michael Buble, comes very close but not as good , will he sell records over a seventy year time span , I agree not always a nice person , but as an entertainer was the tops for me

He sang with such ease and natural talent.
Sadly in some ways not such a nice person.

I think Michael Bublé comes close.

My very first LP was a Sinatra, and that's a long time ago and have never change my opinion of his voice, many have 'sang Sinatra' and a small number have been good, but never as good .

It was awful when he died, they kept playing his music. Since then I have come to appreciate his voice and love what he did. Another example of how my tastes have changed over the years.
