Ah but he did come down once and had a very trying time of it so probably happy to look from a distance, preferably through a telescope perhaps? grin

The man in the moon came tumbling down
And asked his way to Norwich;
He went by the south and burnt his mouth
With supping cold pease porridge.

Permission to put Darth Vader on the naughty step!? grin

matson Sat 07-Nov-15 19:07:03

Course he blows it up!! He's from the dark side !

matson Sat 07-Nov-15 19:02:54

Thanks jings !!!

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 07-Nov-15 19:02:37

Does he really blow the world up?! shock

Nasty old Star Wars thingie. hmm

Ana Sat 07-Nov-15 19:02:21

But jingl if he is the man on the moon why would he be lonely? He wouldn't even know other people existed.

But he is going to feel lonely now he's been made aware of a whole new world out there that he's never going to be able to share...sad

JamJar1 Sat 07-Nov-15 19:01:49

My thoughts exactly jingbellsfrocks. I think it's an ad that will grow on (some) people after a few watches.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 07-Nov-15 18:59:29

Star Wars one

hicaz46 Sat 07-Nov-15 18:58:08

If you think that ad was 'bad' watch the spoof one by Poke. It's a spoof on Star Wars and has a dramatic ending!

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 07-Nov-15 18:55:20

I don't think it got anything at all to do with lonely old people in RL.

Where does the information that Age UK was involved in it, come from please? Link anyone?

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 07-Nov-15 18:53:46

The more I think about the JL advert the more I like it. It is the man on the moon and the little kid is sad for him being up there on his own. So she devises a plan. It's sweet.

I apologise for having a complete turn-around of opinion. hmm

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 07-Nov-15 18:51:12

blush sorry

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 07-Nov-15 18:50:47

Oh! I wanna see that!

matson Sat 07-Nov-15 18:50:01

The star wars parody of this advert is excellent. Sorry don't know how to do the Google link !!

mummsymags Sat 07-Nov-15 17:57:56

I love JL (and AgeUK) but this was completely wasted on me - I just didn't get it, still don't, actually......what was I meant to conclude from the story? It seemed rather pointless and a little bit heartless in a way - nothing was resolved but the family seemed very happy.

Mumsnet have a few more on their list www.mumsnet.com/christmas/christmas-2015-tv-adverts-roundup-the-definitive-list?utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=Post&utm_campaign=page%2C%2Bchristmas%2C%2Badverts

bikergran Sat 07-Nov-15 17:21:40

Ana no your not, as I have never bought anything from JL an cant say I want to to be honest, plus I couldn't afford and we don't have one near us...
Tegan
Yes I believe there is a spoof/darker side one...but I won't be looking at it.

Pittcity Sat 07-Nov-15 17:11:48

Here's a link to some of the other seasonal advertising offerings bit.ly/1MDOdwe

I think an ad has done it's job if people are talking about it.

merlotgran Sat 07-Nov-15 17:09:49

There's a link to one up the thread, Tegan

Tegan Sat 07-Nov-15 17:04:55

Having got over the shock of seeing it for the first time yesterday I can kind of see where they're coming from with it, but an advert should be self explanatory and you should enjoy watching it over and over again [I loved the penguin one and never tired of it]. I can't wait for this one to finish when it comes on. However, I wonder if there will be some spoofs of it on utube soon; they will be interesting.

nainie Sat 07-Nov-15 16:57:19

Nah, did nothing for me. I've loved every Jonn Lewis Christmas advert I used to get goosebumps and yes I cried every time. But this one seems different, there was no 'magic'. Bring back the Bear!

Ana Sat 07-Nov-15 16:46:18

I must be one of the only people on GN who has never bought a thing from John Lewis.

Not about to after that ad, either!

bikergran Sat 07-Nov-15 16:44:34

hope JL reads Gn.hmm

ohdear Sat 07-Nov-15 16:38:27

Why was the poor old bloke left out to begin with? Thats just not nice. And its an advert. Its purpose is to make us buy stuff. Its not a window into someones soul--unless its into the people who thought that this would make us buy more john lewis cushions. Have I mentioned its just an advert.? To make us buy things.

maryEJB Sat 07-Nov-15 16:21:37

I think it's sentimental claptrap, and a load of rubbish! As a (retired) scientist I wont bother to enumerate all the errors - they must be obvious to nearly all! And it did not affect me in the slightest. A film about a lonely old man in th next street who was invited in and given a present on Christmas day would have been more sensible and alson more affecting!
