Although, thinking about it, I did feel that way about the JL Christmas ad, MamaCaz! grin

I don't think she's chubby either. She appears to be a normal size/weight for her age group.

I don't watch that much tv so I don't feel as though I've seen the ad dozens of times - but everyone to their own taste! smile

I thought the girl's dancing amazing and she didn't appear chubby to me at all.
I'd have been concerned if she had been thin though.

MamaCaz Mon 31-Aug-15 18:59:42

I seem to be alone here - I didn't like it much the first time I saw it, and now that I've seen it dozens of times ( well, it feels like it anyway) I have started to groan each time it comes on again.

I love it, too. It's great to watch children dance with such lack of inhibition. When my daughters were the same age, they and a friend practised ballet using the hand rail on the stairs to point their toes onto. Three at once managed to dislodge it and it fell off, slid down the stairs and stopped an inch short of the front door. Their friend still apologises for it, 28 years on. grin

She's great, isn't she? I wonder how they made it all seem so natural? She just seems like she is dancing all on her own (except for the little brother on the stairs) when, of course, there must be a camera crew and all the other paraphernalia of film making around.

Absolutely brilliant! Love this advert with almost as much passion as I hate some of the others. So many irritating ones at the moment this one makes a refreshing change. sunshine

My DD and her OH run outdoor orchestral concerts during the summer, and I remember one year a girl of about 6 was at the front on the grass between the 8,000 strong crowd and the stage, and she danced and danced and danced, completely lost in the music and oblivious of the crowd. It was truly wonderful and inspiring.

It's lovely, but I think I know what grrrrany means, it makes the ad rather bittersweet, children at that age think that anything is possible, whereas adults know that isn't always the case. The old saying of' you can do anything if you work hard enough' isn't true. The JL ads are always a mini film with a sub text, which celebrate innocence ( remember the Christmas ad?)smile

MiniMouse Sun 30-Aug-15 16:34:06

I love the expression on her face - so earnest and determined smile

My elder daughter who was definitely going to be a prima ballerina decided when about seven to use the bathroom towel rail as a bar, off came towel rail plus some plaster, she went off ballet ,i thought it funny and sweet

bikergran Sun 30-Aug-15 16:19:45

oh how inspiring to have a dd or ds to dance round the house like that, no inhibitions lol lovely! love the little boy standing looking,,,,I have 2 dds not sure if they used to swing from the curtains when I wasn't there hmm ...!

Anniebach Sun 30-Aug-15 16:09:38

Nothing wrong with chubby little girls , what is wrong is they are made to feel embarrassed / ashamed , shame on adults who criticise them, some just are chubby, new have become obsessed with weight . I don't mean children should gorge and get obese but this child is just chubby not obese ,I think she is a darling

grrrranny Sun 30-Aug-15 15:34:25

The little girl reminds me of the one in 'Little Miss Sunshine' and although I quite like the advertisement - it is the wobbly vase at the end that I like - the little girl is a bit chubby or whatever word was eventually agreed upon on another thread. I don't quite know why that makes me feel uncomfortable - normalisation of chubbiness in children perhaps combined with that sinking feeling I get when attending GCs dancing displays and they put the plump (is that ok?) children in shiny leotards and they wobble around the stage and it seems that no one is allowed to even think that perhaps a more forgiving outfit could have been used. Going down the garden now to dig a bomb shelter!

Just love it too,so much so I didn't actually notice it was a JL advert. Their ads are so clever I wonder if they are victims of their own advertising suceess. .i.e. the ad is so brilliant that the consumer is too blown away to notice the strap-line.
Love Tiny Dancer as well.... can't wait to see it again (almost worth sitting through an evening of commercial tv just to have a 'wallow'.)

I love it, the little girl is great. This is a really clever ad that draws the viewer in straight away. Tiny Dancer has always been one of my favourite Elton John songs I listened to it a lot back in the 1970s sounds as good today.

Eloethan Sun 30-Aug-15 01:39:59

I love it too - just a shame that such a wonderful little film is just being used to sell something.

I remember dancing like that when I was very young. It always was my dream to go to ballet classes but I never did.

Fantastic! My DGD has a similar sense of gleeful abandon when the Yellow Submarine comes on (my son's influence) grin

Dance like no one's watching!

merlotgran Sat 29-Aug-15 20:55:14
