Strange and Norrell

I finally got around to watching the first episode, and loved it. It reminds me of some of the Tim Burton films, very dark and surreal.

TerriBull I think t was just this week because it was the final of BGT.

I hope Home Fires continues next week as it certainly hadn't finished.

I don't particularly like this series, but - surprisingly - DH does (didn't think it was his sort of thing at all). I do think it's a complete waste of Sam West's considerable talents. He seems to be wandering through it looking for something to do!

Yes had the book on my shelves for years and tried more than once to read it - in the end gave it to charity. Not my thing at all.

I didnt think I would enjoy it as I do not like fantasy themed books or films, but I have got into this programme and really am enjoying it, the acting and effects are very good and it is gripping plotline. I am so glad there is something challenging to watch rather than the peurile pap which is BGT. I can think of nothing worse than this rubbish and to cap it all three of the 'entertainers' that I really dislike are on it ( Walliams, Cowell and Holden).

I had a go at reading the book a few years ago, but only managed 100 pages or so, it's very loooooooooooong! I can tackle tomes easily if the narrative cracks along, I found this book rather tedious, I think I was more attracted to the period it was set in rather than the "magician/magic" element which I'm not very interested in now I'm all grown up!

I have recorded it, and did watch it last night, we had been following Home Fires which I quite enjoyed and didn't realise that had finished and replaced by the abomination that is Britain's Got Talent, so we found ourselves watching Strange and Norrell. I thought I might start watching it from the beginning, always a good place to start I suppose, I thought it was very filmic, great costumes and sets. My husband thought it was whimsical drivel, so no doubt will view it on my own on IPlayer when he is watching something "ball" related, whimsical tosh being preferable, for me anyway!

I have struggled through the first 3 episodes not being a fan of fantasy but I thought I would persevere and try to engage with it. During the programme last night I looked in the paper and saw it was the third of SEVEN episodes. Dh was still watching and I thought Oh Blimey - then the Zombies appeared and that's it for me- I'm out!

I have had it on, sort of half watching, and agree that it is not good. No real story and hard to follow. I deleted my series link after week one. Let's hope there is a good Sunday night alternative soon.

I was looking forward to this but I must admit to struggling too.
Weekend TV is dreadful at the moment although I did enjoy the Spiderman film on Saturday. It had a decent plot and a very likeable young hero.

Maybe now BGT has finished, we'll get something watchable.

I watched the first episode and decided it wasn't for me! I wouldn't go as far as to say it was rubbish, but that type of fantasy stuff doesn't appeal to me.

I hope there's a good drama, with twists and cliffhangers, coming along soon! x

There was something about this when I mentioned "Dark Picture" and as here, there were one or two who liked it and others who thought it was rubbish. Unfortunately, I just did not understand it, so stopped watching halfway through the second episode. I agree with you "caz" Saturday night is a turn off for television these days. In fact there are few programmes which are worth watching, and I do appreciate it must be difficult to find something to please all the time.

I am watching it, a very unusual programme, I have never seen anything quite like it before, but it is strangely compelling!!

Saturday evening is the worst night for tv, I didn't even turn it on.

We watched the first one and decided it was claptrap sorry but it was just awful.

Yes jingle I am enjoying it, it's different, and I'm a fan of fantasy having read all of Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels. I'm not enjoying it tonight though. My OH has made me sit through Britain's Got Talent which is dire! I'll have to go a long way to see a more talentless bunch, and to cap it all, another dog act won. What are the British public thinking!
