Burnham: Is the Media Tempting Fate by Jumping the Gun?
When are the script writers in Coronation Street going to start mentioning Deirdre Barlow again? I know the actress Anne Kirkbride was ill and subsequently died, but Deirdre was last seen going into a meltdown and throwing a trifle at the wall and hasn't even been mentioned since. In the time of her absence 'at a friend's' she has missed her daughter's wedding, her son in law's arrest and subsequent imprisonment for murder. Surely she need to be mentioned, even if they report that she is in a coma somewhere?

Though somehow Nick has grown into his ears - they used to be a real distraction to me when he first hit the cobbles. Perhaps he's had them pinned back.
Nick always reminds me of a hyena...
(I know, shouldn't be 'lookist'!)
Oh I love Mary Charleygirl she is a really good character. Agree with you about Dev and Julie who are both very irritating. Dev (when he is around) overacts something rotten. I liked Owen and was sorry when he left. I though he was a good character. They have left it open for him to come back although he is probably far too busy in Ben and Holly!
I do hope that Carla and Nick get together despite that witch Erica announcing her pregnancy. Nicks character is far too nice but I don't think he is good looking enough for Carla who is really attractive, witty and stylish.
If I remember correctly she went to visit someone[a friend?] who had lost her husband, or something like that, and the friend wasnt coping well.
But she didnt go to Tracey's wedding as the woman still wasnt coping well.
But that was all rather silly even back then, as who would not then
go to a daughters wedding under those circumstances.
I havent seen most of this weeks episodes yet.
You are right Ana, it will! Didn't Deirdre go to visit her friend Bev, wherever she is? I think I need to get out more, I know too much about this soap
Hasn't Dev gone off to India to do some charity work or something? A bit odd, considering he has children and a business back in Manchester - not to mention good old whatshername with the blonde hair.
I read somewhere that Deirdre is to be written out of the show in the summer. Her death will reach Ken via a telephone call. Where is she supposed to have gone, can anyone remember?
What about the current storyline between Nick (too nice for his own good) and Erica (too bad for her own good)? Pregnant at 49? I thought she was older than that. I reckon she will want to keep the baby - probably move into yet another of Gail's spare bedrooms.
I'm thinking along those lines too, KatyK. She's now trying to take over Jack's entire upbringing and is deliberately alienating the rest of his family. It'll end in tears!
I'm wondering if Jenny has lost a child or has been convicted of something child related. Hasn't she got lovely hair by the way? Sorry back to the plot.....
What do you think "Jenny Bradley" is hiding? I cant quite fathom it our yet!
Tonight's two episodes were fantastic. So funny, Sally with the "Banksy" and the jealous neighbour over her conservatory. And the reference to the Athena one with the man holding the baby. How do they deliver lines without laughing? And since when does it stop Nick being with Carla because some other woman is expecting his baby (although how someone of her age is pregnant is beyond me, she's older than I am!) Although many get caught on the change, I suppose. (She's 52 in real life.) But tonight there were sparks between Nick and Carla. Sometimes they will pair characters up and there is nothing between them but these two really do like they like each other.
Right, back to the real world, lol.
That's Stephanie Cole Charleygirl. I like most things she's in.
Blanche actress did die a while ago, I loved that character. I am also wondering why In Underworld the sewing machinists are allowed to eat cakes and drink tea and chat whilst sitting at the machines, and why it is the only garment factory in the UK not to have been transferred to the Far East. And why when there is a wedding/ funeral/ christening all the characters can afford fancy new outfits.
gillybob you and I are very observant I think because I agree with you re Maria walking away rubbing the wrong cheek. I thought that she was rubbing the right side of her chin.
I cannot stand Julie, Mary or Andy but I doubt if Mary is going anywhere. I also do not like Dev.
Did Blanche die in real life? I also like Roy's mother or mother in law- cannot remember her name but she was also an acerbic character with good one liners. She was in Tenko- I am showing my age!
I think the Corrie writers are brilliant. I've loved David's caustic remarks about Gail's many weddings lately and agree that Tim and Sally are a great double act. The Callum character's not bad enough for a baddie though. Jenny's much scarier.
No rubylady definitely not a mirror image thing going on. She even walked away rubbing the wrong cheek. Not a red mark to be seen, although knowing corrie it's entirely possible that she will look like a crash victim this evening.
According to the Corrie news (my grandma) Julie is leaving soon which is a shame as I quite like her character. Also Andy (Aka Gavin))
My favourite (and we don't see too much of her lately) is Mary Taylor (with the motor home) especially when she talks about "mother" with whom she seemed to have had a love-hate relationship.
I know it's not real
Didn't Maria rub her cheek in the mirror though? It would have looked like the other one then but would still be her left cheek? Was Jenny Bradley always that wierd?
I miss Blanche too, she was fantastic, although little Amy has had some cracking lines recently and is definitely her mother's daughter with her demanding ways. Katie Ford is fantastic as in real life she is apparently quiet and shy. Not as Tracy she isn't.
They all don't seem to look after their children. Often I find myself wondering who has got the baby or child of someone as they seem to be in the pub (do we all go to the pub for our lunch and after work?) or in the Bistro. Nick is very attractive although I have always liked Steve too. It must be the hormones!
I like the way that Audrey is allowed to live off the street, and virtually no one else is full time.
Is Dev coming back anytime soon? He is hardly in the show as it is, which I think is a bit of a shame. I dont know why he is not given a bigger role.
Another missing child - we haven't seen Amy for ages...
Audrey never seems to age. In fact a lot of them dont. Ken Barlow especially.
I googled Tracey Barlow recently, and discovered that she is 37. I thought that she must be about 31.
And how many bedrooms must Gail have? Why don't some of them stay at Audrey's ?
I enjoy Corrie too. I know the story lines are quite often ridiculous but I do love the humour.
Having said that, I often wonder why soaps aren't more realistic - they could still be more exciting than "real life" but at the same time have fairly believable plotlines.
I watched Eastenders from its first episode but finally gave up a few years ago when I decided that the majority of the plotlines reinforced an unrelentingly negative view of how human beings behave.
I love Corrie. I have heard that they are going to have a story re Deirdre over the Bank Holiday, although I'm not sure which Bank Holiday. Oh yes, Tim and Sally are turning into a great double act. I like most of the characters, with the exception of Kevin Webster.
I guessed it was after Miley Cyrus, gillybob. It could have been worse - she could have been called Twerk.
Yes NotTooOld she is called after Miley Cyrus.
I have never watched Eastenders PRINTMISS it always seemed a bit too depressing for me.
I tend to watch corrie with my grandma and she fills me in (word for word) with whatever I miss.
