Brought low by unable to get Mad Men through computer. I have to subscribe to Sky and the old man will not sanction (sooooo selfish - different if it was sport) £40 or so a month.
BUT
Just read the list of new drama to come this year;

Cider with Rosie
The Go-between
An Inspector calls
War and Peace
Agatha Christie
Lady Chatterley
John le Carre novel

The BBC is returning to it's old values, I think, as these are all on BBC. NO ADVERTS.

WooHoo! Should be good. Thanks for info!

I hope Cider with Rosie is the first one out of the traps. DD and I were just saying this morning that there will be a big hole in our telly watching when Poldark finishes.

Yes. Mother is Samantha Morton. June Whitfield and Annette Crosby as the warring grannies. Apparently, lushly filmed in glorious countryside. Can' wait.

Samantha Morton; local girl made good. Great actress.

nightowl Sat 11-Apr-15 15:05:07

You're right Tegan, not only a local girl made good but a brave girl who survived the care system and triumphed beyond anyone's wildest dreams. Looking forward to this!

Fantastic programmes lined up, thanks for the info Jo.. Who is Samantha Morton?

Ariadne Sat 11-Apr-15 21:04:05

Glad you asked that, caz!

jo1book Sat 11-Apr-15 22:14:58

Samantha Morton is a very fine actress, Bafta nominated. Wiki. will give you all information and pics. Good choice; will be excellent as Mother Lee

cazthebookworm Sat 11-Apr-15 23:41:13

Yes, all the info on Wiki, lots of nominations but I am still not familiar with her work. It seems many of her films, although held in high regard, were not box office successes.
I look forward to seeing her on TV, it sounds as though she will be excellent in her role.

The Go-Between will be interesting. How do you follow Alan Bates and Julie Christie? They have Vanessa Redgrave and Jim Carter as the older characters but no mention of who plays their younger selves. They need to cast some hot actors! Any thoughts?

I think Sheridan Smith is such a talented actress, how about her for the female role?

jo1book Mon 13-Apr-15 09:41:16

Yes. she is and would be good in this role as Marion has to be quite "knowing" and manipulative. I have always thought this a good story and have watched the film many times; always stirred by the injustice to the child.

glammanana Mon 13-Apr-15 10:05:25

How sad you have lost your "Mad Men" treat jo1book I would certainly be having words about that !! lol. There are lots of good programmes up and coming and they look really good don't they.
I really enjoy anything Sheridan Smith does she is so talented but then again she is a Liverpool lass and I am very bias of course.

jo1book Mon 13-Apr-15 12:18:44

I didn't know that Glam, That accounts for the sparkiness. I love Liverpool lasses. We were mooching around the shopping area near the docks some years ago and I just admired the girls' look. Very up to date and fashionable; I loved the big hair rollers under a scarf look. Such confidence and chutspah. Keep the fashion flag flying you liverbirds.

The BBC website says that Joanna Vanderham - star of BBC One's The Paradise - and Jack Hollington will star as the younger incarnations of Marian and Leo.

Bez Mon 13-Apr-15 12:29:10

The young female is played by Joanna Vanderham who was in The Paradise.
