Revealed with hardly a blaze of glory on red button and i-Player: this is it! So is it going to carry all before it or sink without trace?

Love this years UK entry by Electro Velvet, "Still In Love With You". IMO best song we have had for years.

It's a very forgettable song but a well produced video with a jolly dance routine (though I hate the chap's fake American accent). Even though mediocrity characterises Eurovision, I'd be surprised if this got very far.

I always used to watch Eurovision - it was just a bit of light hearted fun. It has become ridiculous now that you can almost predict who will be giving their top marks to whom.

It has always been the case that most of the songs were dreadful but there used to be one or two that were quite good. I lost heart with it when Andy Abraham represented us. I thought his song was OK - a lot better than some - and he sang it really well. I felt so sorry for him when he came joint last, with, I think, about 6 points. I don't usually bother now.

If this song wins Eurovision I shall eat my one and only hat!
But, nice song, catchy. Who knows? Anything can happen on Eurovision.

annodomini Mon 09-Mar-15 09:26:59

It's certainly got us talking and divided opinion nicely!

ginny Mon 09-Mar-15 08:41:59

Oh good grief !

Charleygirl Sun 08-Mar-15 17:37:10

What a waste of time and money- you can see I am a big fan!!!

mcmarvyn Sun 08-Mar-15 17:35:07

I really love the song and it's not often I say that about our Eurovision entry! Agree with Annodomini though. The right staging will be vital

Tegan Sun 08-Mar-15 17:31:53

Oh dear, it's awful Still, it's better to do badly with a bad song than do badly with a good song [which is what happened last year sad].

https://eurovisiontimes.wordpress.com/2012/08/10/faq-why-can-israel-participate-in-the-eurovision-song-contest/

As this article points out, it's not really anything to do with being in Europe.

tanith Sun 08-Mar-15 16:51:15

Israel and Morocco have taken part and neither are in Europe so its not a new thing to include those outside of Europe.

shysal Sun 08-Mar-15 16:41:35

Nul points!!!!!

TerriBull Sun 08-Mar-15 16:20:40

ooops Abba were Swedish, sorry Sweden!

TerriBull Sun 08-Mar-15 16:11:59

It was always tosh, but from what I remember there wasn't the tactical voting that there is now. I haven't watched it for years, but wonder if a lot of the eastern bloc countries vote as they do because they know as far as musical success is concerned on a world stage they are "zilch". We have nothing to prove, Beatles, Rolling Stones etc. etc. etc etc., in addition we seem to be enjoying a renaissance at the moment musically with many homegrown acts enjoying success at the Grammys. Ireland is also another small country that punches above their weight in this respect. Why do we bother we are too good for this farce. I don't know why we hand it over to Eastern Europe, Russia and the countries that were formerly part of the Soviet Union then they can just carry on voting for each other as they do every year and the winner will have 5 minutes of success and disappear without a trace. It's probably going to be as political as ever this year with that part of the world no doubt trying to show their support for Ukraine.

I know Europe has expanded of late, but I'd say including Australia is stretching boundaries a tad! Anyway Abba were really the only worthwhile thing Eurovision produced, they certainly put Norway on the map.

campodol Sun 08-Mar-15 15:43:29

so i guess they are our best then, they could have asked us annodomini i think a group `The Gransnetters' could do just as well wink

hildajenniJ Sun 08-Mar-15 15:42:14

Did you know that Australia have been invited to enter a song? It is to celebrate 60 years of the Eurovision song contest.
As for the British entry, well, we'll see. I don't rate it very highly. hmm

annodomini Sun 08-Mar-15 15:21:43

I suspect that the song was chosen - maybe commissioned - by someone at the BBC and the singers - the girl failed to get past round 1 of the Voice last year and the man impersonates Mick Jagger in a tribute band - are probably the cheapest they could find.
Cynical? Me? hmm

durhamjen Sun 08-Mar-15 15:19:29

It would be interesting to see if anyone challenges that song. It seemed like I'd heard it before.

soontobe Sun 08-Mar-15 15:17:24

I have no idea campodol. It seems to change yearly. There was a time when the nation decided between about 6 songs. All of which were rubbish anyway. So that was pointless too. A bit irritating when apparently they had 1000's of entries. So you had to wonder if there were good songs that had already bitten the dust.

loopylou Sun 08-Mar-15 15:05:28

Sorry everyone who loves it, I found it cringeworthy years ago blush and haven't watched for at least 10 years.

annodomini Sun 08-Mar-15 15:00:59

All I can say is that it's 'cute'! The staging will be important - some lively lindy-hopping, perhaps!

Mishap Sun 08-Mar-15 14:38:25

Never watch it - used to when I was younger. It has just got out of hand and it is about spectacle and gimmick now.

Having said that I think this song is a cut above others we have fielded. Love the 20s Charleston beat and period band.

merlotgran Sun 08-Mar-15 14:30:21

Last year when I suggested to DH that we watch Eurovision he replied, 'What have we got to drink?' grin

KatyK Sun 08-Mar-15 14:05:18

Catchy little number but I agree with merlot. What's the point?

campodol Sun 08-Mar-15 14:03:33

can anyone tell me who decides what the song is and who the singers will be ?

merlotgran Sun 08-Mar-15 13:53:13

It's a jolly song but totally wrong for Eurovision and they hate everything we do anyway so what's the point?
