The next series starts tonight at 9.00 on BBC1

rosequartz Mon 02-Feb-15 10:40:31

Yes, we can sit back now with a sense of relief and think of them going along nicely on their chosen paths.
Or not!

PRINTMISS Mon 02-Feb-15 08:45:30

Great series, so very enjoyable from all aspects, so many different characters woven together. Will there be another series, do you think? I rather feel that leaving the story alone now, with all the loose ends tied up neatly would be best.

NfkDumpling Mon 02-Feb-15 08:03:08

No Rosequartz I agree completely. It's the thought of going half way round the world packed like a sardine that stops me revisiting my cousins in Sydney.

A wonderful last episode. Loved it to the end. Not sure how it can be topped in the next series.

rosequartz Sun 01-Feb-15 23:03:26

Yes, I think I could be bought by an upgrade to first class to Australia.
Does that make me shallow?

merlotgran Sun 01-Feb-15 22:24:00

grin Mishap

What a cracker of an episode. I'm going to miss it soooooo much.

Ana Sun 01-Feb-15 22:06:07

I've always liked Gillian, and after tonight's episode I now like Caroline.

ninathenana Sun 01-Feb-15 22:04:57

What a gorgeous baby Flora is smile

I knew Gillian was no saint but............ !!! Another brilliant performance by Sarah.

Mishap Sun 01-Feb-15 22:03:09

She's quite a girl that Gillan! It reminded me of a book of newspaper misprints that I once had - there was a traffic report that said "The bride was open to two-way traffic."

rubysong Sun 01-Feb-15 22:01:05

A long haul upgrade to first class would bring me round to most things!

rosequartz Fri 30-Jan-15 09:47:50

Audrey's father was Sir Harmer Nicolls, MP. she went to boarding school with some girls I was at college with, although she was a couple of years ahead.

Ana Thu 29-Jan-15 20:43:53

Yes, I believe she is. Must admit her 'northern' accent is a bit strange sometimes. But of course there are all sorts of dialect and accent variations in and around the Manchester/Salford area.

merlotgran Thu 29-Jan-15 20:37:04

Isn't Audrey a Lady Somebodyorother in real life?

Ana Thu 29-Jan-15 19:56:24

Have you heard the actresses who play Rita Fairclough and Audrey the hairdresser, and the actor who plays Roy, in real life? They're extremely well-spoken!

I think a lot of the younger actors on Coronation Street are genuine northerners.

rosequartz Thu 29-Jan-15 19:18:58

She sounds right northern in this one!

rosequartz Thu 29-Jan-15 19:15:35

Oh, I thought she was 'trying to be posh' when she was playing Raquel, so therefore a posh actress, playing a northerner trying to be posh.

But it was such a long time ago my memory is hazy smile

rubylady Tue 27-Jan-15 00:59:12

rose "Sarah must have been a good actress to play Raquel as she is quite posh in real life" to me implied that she must have played it less posh. In fact on watching youtube again she seemed quite posh, clipped in her language, just a bit dizzy. Saying that I'm not posh at all but there are the odd ones around I'm sure, lol.

Sorry if I got the wrong end of a very sticky stick.

rubylady Tue 27-Jan-15 00:54:40

I tweeted Tony Gardner who plays John yesterday and he tweeted me back, saying Thank you. (little dance) I don't normally get replies unless it's off the Mrs. Brown's lot. Now he is my favourite in the programme. Yeah!!! grin

Teetime Mon 26-Jan-15 14:34:00

Your probably right grumpa hadn't thought of it like that.

grumppa Mon 26-Jan-15 10:48:01

If the principal competition is the terrifying Caroline I can see the attraction of Gillian.

rosequartz Mon 26-Jan-15 10:02:27

rubylady did I say you weren't posh up north? confused wink

Teetime Mon 26-Jan-15 08:51:58

I nodded of in last nights episode - I think its losing its appeal. the mystery is how Gillian is so attractive to men - she's so grumpy and grungy.

Soutra Mon 26-Jan-15 05:28:20

"Trailers" for next week don't bother me a bit as I will have forgotten by then. But if they are repeated on a daily basis, they might spoil rather than whet my appetite.

Soutra Mon 26-Jan-15 05:26:13

"Hide with me?" confused

rubylady Mon 26-Jan-15 04:01:55

rose We can be posh in t'north tha knows. smile

Whatever hormone Gillian's taking, I want some! She's certainly in a purple patch!

And I want a Greg to come and sort out my problems. I wonder if he is as good at painting and decorating as he is at changing a nappy?

I got home from going seeing my dad and found that it had not recorded on the freeview+ box so just watched on iplayer. Then listened to Desert Island Discs with Sally Wainwright, love her even more now.

She wrote for Coronation Street for 5 years so that is probably where she found Sarah Lancashire from, as their time on the street overlapped and she may have even wrote her the famous lines Raquel says to Ken on learning French je m'appelle Raquel voulez-vous cacher avec moi? Classic.

Eloethan Mon 26-Jan-15 00:34:06

I loved that scene where Alan was on the phone to Gary and Celia was mouthing instructions as to what he should say, and then even holding up notes.

I often make phone calls for my mum, and the difficulty of trying to conduct a conversation with someone in the background telling you what to say was, I thought, brilliantly done and very funny (though exasperating in reality).
