Just caught up with this on I Player, I believe it was screened on Tuesday. Thought it was really gripping, can't wait for the next instalment . A different role for James Nesbitt played the distraught father very well.

soop, I believe he's still alive, too. I was wondering about the relevance of the drawing of the figure in the frost on the window? tchconfused

merlotgran Wed 17-Dec-14 13:37:42

The dodgy journalist found out Tony had murdered Ian Garrett by hacking into Emily's phone so there's a case for blackmail I expect.

soop Wed 17-Dec-14 13:32:33

I believe that Ollie is still alive. I really wanted to see him back with his family. A fairy tale ending that wasn't to be.

whenim64 Wed 17-Dec-14 09:44:11

I'll be watching, too. I wonder if the child had been drugged when he was put back in the boot of the car and his 'body' supposedly hidden. Still a few loose ends and the links to Russia made me think something bigger was going on - trafficking? It's annoying to be given a half-hearted ending, though.

Iam64 Wed 17-Dec-14 08:44:47

It was miserable papaoscar, but gripping all the same. It was clear 30 minutes in that the series couldn't end and there will be a sequel. I'll be watching I expect.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 17-Dec-14 08:42:00

Well, yes. That's very true. Was a bit much, to say the least, when the sad ending was closely followed by the real-life news. sad

What is it about this time of the year? "A vale of tears" is so often right.

papaoscar Wed 17-Dec-14 08:38:02

Glad I didn't watch it. There's enough real misery in the world without adding to it.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 17-Dec-14 08:34:34

I thought it was very sad that, in the end, Tony could not accept Ollie's death, and was back wandering the streets, still looking for him. Explained the title of the episode - "Till death".

I think to understand all of it, I would have to watch several episodes again. I hate the fact that the Beeb have done away with series catch-up.

I got the idea that the next series would be about a completely different case of a missing child. But would that allow for James Nesbitt to be in it?

glammanana Wed 17-Dec-14 08:20:55

I don't think the Garrett murder will be forgotten in the next series,he insisted he had not harmed the child but I think he was involved with disappearance of children.
The father has obviously not given up on his search as the trailer shows and looks to take him to many areas in Russia, keeping with the story line I wonder if the boy in the trailer recognised the drawing that Nesbitt showed to him when he was arrested.

Feeling let down. I wanted an ending it didn't have to be a happy ending
( obviously there was never going to be) but any plausible ending would have done. Is it just me or is a lack of good endings scarcer. What start off promising seem to fall flat. I've stopped watching the homecoming because it ran out of steam. I was dissapointed with the recent michael palin ending the other night. Fingers crossed for a good ending in the fall on Thursday. Me thinks somone is watching to much T.V blush and should ...get a life..do something useful...read a good bookwink

NfkDumpling Wed 17-Dec-14 06:41:53

As DH pointed out, if he'd gone out just to return a scarf to someone just down the road, got blind drunk, gone missing for about a day, come back stinking of booze (when he was on the wagon), blood on his clothes and upset - I might have noticed!

He pointed out stuff like that all the way through - most annoying he was - I don't think we'll watch the next series!

merlot

Didn't the Garrett murder get put to bed because the retired French detective found the dad's shirt when Garrett's body was found and he gave the blooded shirt back to the father , in other words I know you killed Garrett but the paedophile wasn't worth you being charged for his murder.

POGS Tue 16-Dec-14 23:45:30

I thought that was concluded tonight, other than where the sons body was. confused

I thought thethe brief clip for another series looked as though it was going to be another story line, not a continuation of this one.

All I found confusing is 'Why did the journalist keep the token'.

merlotgran Tue 16-Dec-14 22:28:05

The new series will no doubt be another series of flashbacks so just as confusing.

They left the Ian Garrett murder hanging in the air as well so I suppose that will crop up again.

tanith Tue 16-Dec-14 22:19:15

Wasn't there a song called "There are more questions than answers".

granjura Tue 16-Dec-14 22:00:08

Unbearable, I feel sick.

Ana Tue 16-Dec-14 21:44:28

Glad I didn't stick with this. Knowing there may be another series makes me even more glad...

granjura Tue 16-Dec-14 21:34:48

Can't take much more- unbearable.

Marelli Tue 16-Dec-14 17:32:54

Broadchurch starts again on 5th January! tchsmile

tanith Tue 16-Dec-14 13:40:02

Oh no please I couldn't bear another series about the same thing... no end it now please..

POGS Tue 16-Dec-14 13:38:52

Whoops. Not The Missing. Remember Me. blush

POGS Tue 16-Dec-14 13:37:30

Me too.

I just hope we get a conclusion or I might be tempted to throw something at the tele after The Missing. grin

merlotgran Tue 16-Dec-14 13:25:08

Looking forward to the conclusion tonight. There's talk of a second series so maybe they'll be able to prove Ollie's alive but not know where he is?

NotTooOld Thu 11-Dec-14 16:42:41

Oh, I agree Marelli. Julien's definitely not too old. I'll have to take more notice of his wife's clothes.

Lilygran Thu 11-Dec-14 10:24:41

Bring back Spirals! And why is Ripper Street now only available on some kind of download through Amazon?
