See if you can spot me and the GF in this crowd.

Yes, I realised later that the song I was thinking of was Leader of the Pack.

Pat Boone is still with us and has a website. Please don't ask me how I know that - too much time on my hands.

I think he was killed in a stock car race! Remember Terry by Twinkle? grin
Now he was killed on his motor bike. Such cheerful stuff!

Was that the one where the lad was killed on his motor bike?

My cousin was obssessed by "Tell Laura I love Her" I can't remember who sang it, but it was always on her record player when I went round there. I think it was the first song that I knew all the words to.

Don`t know where the K came from!

Someone mentioned Pat Boone earlier. Now I haven`t thought of Pat Boone in years, even though IK did quite like him back in the days, but for some reason, I`ve had his version of "Friendly Persuasion" going through my head all this week, it won`t go away!

Went to Mothers once (got in on borrowed membership cards) and saw the Moody Blues! I loved Nights in white satin. I also recall it being rather "smoky" in there with a very sweet smell!!!

That's why I tripped over sad as well. For some reason have a very vivid memory of going to a disco at Matthew Bolton Technical College and hearing Elton John sing Lady Samantha for the first time [not meaning that Elton John was actually there or that it was the first time the song had been sung].

KatyK Thu 23-Oct-14 21:12:09

Tegan. I remember the kinks thing quite well. I always went with the same group of school friends. We sat behind the stage at the back. Never went to Mothers but knew some people who did. Happy days. First time i wore heels to a disco thinking i was grown up and tripped and went flying across the dance floor.

purpledaffodil I did have to google the group but I remember all the words to that song!

Purpledaffodil Thu 23-Oct-14 19:34:14

Bookdreamer I couldn't have named the band, but the lyrics popped into my head. How odd!
HollyDaze, what are we doing to them? Probably healthier than some of the lyrics around now anyway. [curmudgeon emoticon]

I wonder if it was the same night? Must admit that I don't remember an awful lot about it; can't even remember who I went with confused. Remember more about going to Mothers cause I was trying to look dead cool but tripped over walking through the door blush.

KatyK Thu 23-Oct-14 19:02:08

Tegan. I saw the kinks at birmingham town hall. I threw a bright pink scarf onto the stage and dave davies put it around his neck.

bookdreamer Thu 23-Oct-14 18:54:19

How about hedgehoppers anonymous? It's good news week.

HollyDaze Thu 23-Oct-14 18:50:54

Thinking of that song for some reason reminded me of the Pushbike Song (anyone remember that?). When we stayed at my aunt's caravan once (I'd have been about 13/14) and that ooh ooh, ooh ooh ah bit came on, my aunt, who was normally quite a staid person, suddenly went into this weird kind of dance to that bit! Even sitting here now remembering it, I'm chuckling away.

HollyDaze Thu 23-Oct-14 18:46:24

Remember when Young Girl was banned - so everyone rushed out and bought it!

rubysong Thu 23-Oct-14 18:44:09

The Zombies, 'She's not there'. Still sounds as fresh as ever. Also anything by Free. (I saw Free at an all night gig in a stately home barn, many many years ago.)

HollyDaze Thu 23-Oct-14 18:35:43

I have the same here with my GDs Purpledaffodil - If I have a Manfred Mann CD on or Bon Jovi, when certain tracks come on, my GDs start singing along with them confused must be that genetics thing grin

Tegan Thu 23-Oct-14 18:11:56

Don't suppose anyone used to go to 'Mothers' in Birmingham? I saw Jethro Tull and Keith Emerson there. And the Kinks at the Town Hall.

KatyK Thu 23-Oct-14 17:59:21

Susan maughan ! Loved that too

Purpledaffodil Thu 23-Oct-14 17:55:42

Crikey Tegan The Yardbirds! They were a local group in the sixties and one of them lived next door to a school friend in Hampton. We thought she was so cool!
A lot of songs I like to hear are from the sixties but also the stuff that was on the radio when I was a child. "Two way Family Favourites" anyone? grin
Rosequartz we used to listen to Dire Straits tapes driving across France for family holidays. DD complains that she knows the words to their songs when she was only born in 1984!

Kiora Thu 23-Oct-14 17:52:10

I love Carole king too. One of aunts who looked after me used to play roses are red my love by Bobby vinton and bobbys girl by Susan something or other.

KatyK Thu 23-Oct-14 17:12:04
