I've just listened (11.15) to The Reunion on BBC Radio 4 with Sue MacGregor and four Sun executives from the 1980s. I was sickened at the patronising arrogance of these despicable people and the glorification of their appalling rag of a paper. There was no contrition, shame or apology for their disgusting conduct. I suspect (hope!) that the BBC and Sue set 'email up to reinforce what a nasty lot they were and still are, but did anybody else hear the broadcast?

Sorry, turned off when I heard the subject!

henetha Sun 24-Aug-14 13:22:57

I didn't hear it but wish I had. I agree with every word you say about the so called newspaper, the Sun. Why do people continue to buy it?

FlicketyB Sun 24-Aug-14 13:28:37

papaoscarDid you really expect them to show emotions other than those they did?

papaoscar Sun 24-Aug-14 13:50:22

henetha you can listen to it for seven days on BBC Radio Player or directly from the BBC Radio 4 schedule page.

Eloethan Sun 24-Aug-14 13:53:51

I can't understand why The Reunion would give air time to such a pointless bunch of people and their tacky newspaper. It's usually a pretty good programme.

papaoscar Sun 24-Aug-14 13:57:28

Fb I try to be fair-minded and was interested to hear what the present-day attitude of these former senior Sun staff members is as regards the dreadful conduct of their newspaper. I got the impression they could not give a 4X, which does not surprise me.

papaoscar Sun 24-Aug-14 14:11:39

I shared your opinion Eleothan, but then realised that by giving these dreadful people airtime the Beeb had reminded us all how repulsive the Sun and many if its senior people have been and still are. There are more ways of killing the cat, after all!

Eloethan Sun 24-Aug-14 17:38:50

You have a point there papaoscar.

grumppa Sun 24-Aug-14 18:02:29

Possibly, henetha, some Sun readers wonder why people continue to buy the Times, Telegraph, Independent and Guardian. To the best of my recollection I never have bought the Sun except in the course of business, but each to their own.

durhamjen Sun 24-Aug-14 19:20:59

I wonder how many Sun readers listened to it.

Ana Sun 24-Aug-14 19:31:14

Do you really? hmm

rosesarered Sun 24-Aug-14 19:40:41

I guess the point of radio discussion is to give air time and discuss all kinds of things with all kinds of people. Not everyone will agree with them or like them, but some will, and may have enjoyed the programme. We can't just have things on the radio that we personally do not like.

durhamjen Sun 24-Aug-14 19:48:08

Yes I do, Ana. I have that sort of mind.

Ana Sun 24-Aug-14 19:50:52

But you surely already knew the answer, so it was just another dig at Sun readers...

I'll leave you to it.

durhamjen Sun 24-Aug-14 19:57:24

I imagine the Sun advertised it, so expected some of its readers to listen. Are you suggesting that Sun readers are not intelligent enough to listen to Radio four?
Wouldn't it have been better to have left me to it in the first place, rather than making snide remarks about my comments?

durhamjen Sun 24-Aug-14 19:58:28

Are you a Sun reader, Ana? Did you listen to it?

Ana Sun 24-Aug-14 20:02:52

Perhaps you shouldn't make 'snide' comments either, durhamjen.

durhamjen Sun 24-Aug-14 20:28:56

I really want to know, though, Ana.

Penstemmon Sun 24-Aug-14 20:50:31

I heard some of it driving up the A3 but DHs expletives aimed at the programme meant I missed some of it! It was interesting to hear them talking and reminded me of the awfulness.

Anyone been to see Great Britain at the Lyttleton?

Galen Sun 24-Aug-14 21:07:18

Didn't hear it as I was playing with my bow and arrows.
Probably a good job as I might have been tempted to shoot my radio!

( hmm wish my aim was that good! Damm target kept ducking out of my way today angry )

durhamjen Sun 24-Aug-14 21:14:21

If your radio was far enough away to be used as target practice, Galen, you probably would not be able to hear it.

Galen Sun 24-Aug-14 22:16:44

I'm shooting at 30yds! I think I could still hear a wireless at that distance!

durhamjen Sun 24-Aug-14 22:42:14

I don't think I could, Galen. I have a hearing aid for my good ear. The other one they can't do anything about. Might be able to hear music, but not talking.
