Was there a programme in the 60s 70s 80s that you had to watch on TV before you went out - or maybe it kept you in. Mine was Ready Steady Go and watching it whilst putting my make- up on before going out for a hopefully great Friday night. The weekend starts here - good times!

I loved Bonanza too though I was 'in love' with Adam (I think that was his name - the dark haired one)

I loved the Monkees too - Mickey Dolenz was my favourite.

I just couldn't do anything or go anywhere on a Saturday night until I had seen The Monkees. I had such a crush on Davy Jones(sadly no longer with us). Emergency Ward Ten was another not to be missed.

Deedaa just looked him up on Wiki. He has his own hair, and no beer belly and raises horses. Do you fancy a trip to the US to check him out ?

NanKate Sat 06-Sept-14 18:52:34

Deedaa I haven't thought of the handsome Robert Fuller for about 50 years. I'm all of a tremble now. grin

rockgran Fri 05-Sept-14 23:57:14

Yes, Deeda, I loved all those TV cowboys!

Deedaa Fri 05-Sept-14 22:13:00

Wasn't Little Joe gorgeous rockgran with all those girl friends who always conveniently ended up in jail or dead smile I also had a big thing for Robert Fuller in Laramie - he was only twice as old as me .... it could have worked!

rockgran Fri 05-Sept-14 04:08:25

Bonanza- (the tune still gives me a tummy flip!). Little Joe was my hero. Daydreaming about him got me through many a maths lesson - and woe betide anyone who tried to phone me on Friday night at 8pm! ( sigh...)

NanKate Lol, the younger generation wouldn't know who Rudolph Nureyev is. Glad you got his autograph though, more than I did. I was in the lift with my husband and baby daughter too, although I could have kicked them out! grin

My cd player has given up so no music for now. sad But good thinking ethelbags1 I've just put Winters Tale on youtube. Thank you. smile

etheltbags1 Tue 02-Sept-14 21:49:55

David Essex is still gorgeous, I watch him on u tube often. beats the younger generation. I luv 'hold me close' and 'winters tale' xxx

The Avengers, and The Prisoner - those were my big ones. Did occasional jobs on TOTP, but looked on it as prole feed... Did one with Fat Reg, aka Elton John. The song was Honky Cat, and I had to wear a mouse costume!

What a missed opportunity Rubylady but I can understand how you were lost for words.

In the 1960s I lived in Stratford upon Avon and one night I had gone with the family to see Rudolph Nureyev dance. I was looking through the front window the next day and he walked by. I grabbed my programme and with the rest of the family we chased him down the road to get an autograph.

He smiled and said 'I see you have brought the whole family with you'. He was just lovely and signed my programme and walked off back to the theatre. Wow what an experience. I don't think I said much either. hmm

NanKate and Ana My claim to fame was that I got into a lift with the gorgeous David Essex around 1990 ish. He was right there, right beside me and what did I say to him....nothing! I was dumbstruck. He had been in the panto he had put on in Liverpool that Christmas. How I wanted to rewind that night and say something to one of my idols of that era. Gutted.

Tegan I've been to Florida. Get a couple of books, puzzle books, travel games, anything that will pass time. Also move about a fair bit and maybe some flight support stockings? flowers

The best day of the week for me was Saturday which we always got to spend with my dad. Started with the Horse racing where my brother, my dad and myself would put 2d on a horse and if it did not come in the first 3 it would roll over to the next race. The the wrestling, and then fat burnt sausages with thick bread and butter and huge mug of tea with two suguars. Heaven.

Thanks Tegan. It depends on the airline whether the long haul experience is good or not. But Americans don't put up with poor service, so going to the USA should be a good experience. Enjoy the trip.
Getting back to the thread- you could play the game 'spot the scenery from old TV programmes' ! x

Tegan Tue 02-Sept-14 00:16:39

No; I've never been outside Europe. I'm excited but scared stiff at the same time. Never done a long haul flight and not sure what I can and can't put in my luggage confused. At least I can give you lots of tips when I get back.

Eloethan Tue 02-Sept-14 00:15:03

It's amazing when you think series like Z Cars went out "live". And why Quatermasss terrified me I don't know, with all its wonky and unrealistic scenery.

J52 Mon 01-Sept-14 23:49:18

Tegan, is it me you are asking? I'm going in mid October. Have you been before? It looks fun! x

Tegan Mon 01-Sept-14 23:06:39

When are you going there? I'm there in about 3 weeks....

Deedaa Mon 01-Sept-14 23:05:57

I remember having to go to a pantomime when I was a girl guide and missing an episode of Quatermass and the Pit! Disaster! Fortunately it wasn't the final one or I would never have known what happened. If you'd told me then that one day we'd be able to record programmes and watch them again and again I'd never have believed it!

J52 Mon 01-Sept-14 22:24:31

Lots of old TV programmes are on YouTube. I'm currently watching The Streets of SanFrancisco. In preparation for my trip there. I don't expect it's changed much!! X

NanKate Mon 01-Sept-14 21:47:58

How I agree Tegan 'Love for Lydia' was wonderful. I wonder if it would affect now like it did all those years ago.

janerowena Mon 01-Sept-14 21:43:22

Pah! Down with Dr Kildare!!!

I was allowed to stay up later one night a week only, and to choose the programme to watch for that last hour after my sisters had gone to bed. I chose The Avengers. All was well, until Dr Kildare started up on the other side. My mother loved him and started a campaign to get me to like the soppy man. There was no comparison, feisty Emma Peel's independent role model v. long lingering glances and deaths on the other side. I cried and cried because of course, she won.

Tegan Mon 01-Sept-14 21:39:58

Love for Lydia. We went to a works do when it was the last episode and had to leave early to see it [think we went back later and also think other people did the same].
