Just setting up the video for whilst I am away looking after the GSs for a few days.

I see on Thurs ch5 they have an hour show about naughty pensioners. I am sure throughout I will be saying how awful the programme is, but I just can't resist watching it. hmm

Kiora

We were gobsmacked to see very obvious over 65's have vodka in children's slushies (crumbled ice in a plastic cup) They started the day with glasses of champagne then spent the day with the alcohol fuelled slushies. They moved on to the harder stuff in the evening up until the early hours.

Unfortunately we had very little alcohol because our lovely boys were with us. They seemed to be having a great time. envy

not the slightest bit 'shocking' unless you think that people over 70 shouldnt have a good time. They all seemed perfectly ok people, saved up to have a good holiday, nobody abusive or violent. Thought the lady who was living her youth ( she had married at 18) was rather funny, admired her wading into the punch up and defusing the situation.

Ana Thu 10-Jul-14 22:32:51

It was truly awful - and as you say, NanKate, how on earth could their elderly livers cope with all that alcohol? confused

NanKate Thu 10-Jul-14 22:04:48

So much alcohol - I'm surprised their livers can stand up to such a battering.
However, they weren't hurting anyone but themselves and they seemed to be having fun, so live and let live.

I switched off after 10 minutes!

rosequartz Thu 10-Jul-14 21:17:59

Boring, boring, bored! Turned over to another channel.

rosequartz Thu 10-Jul-14 20:34:31

Champagne (well, cava) was on the breakfast menu where we stayed Kiora, and very nice it was too - I only indulged twice though!

Ana Thu 10-Jul-14 20:15:50

I don't think there's going to be much sex and frolicking! One couple interviewed said they never even drank during the rest of the year, but took advantage of the cheaper cost of living when they spent a couple of months in Tenerife in the winter.

I suppose the documentary-makers did their best to make it all look shocking - we shall see!

Nonu Thu 10-Jul-14 20:10:13

Give the oldies a chance I say .

They haven't that many years left.

Let them enjoy themselves.

They are not here rehearsing.

Myself, my husband and two young grandchildren stayed in a marvellous 4 star all inclusive in Tenerife a few years ago. We were gobsmacked to see very obvious over 65's have vodka in children's slushies (crumbled ice in a plastic cup) They started the day with glasses of champagne then spent the day with the alcohol fuelled slushies. They moved on to the harder stuff in the evening up until the early hours. They did behave though and there was no trouble. Unfortunately we had very little alcohol because our lovely boys were with us. They seemed to be having a great time. envy

Why are people so surprised? If someone is oafish, sexually promiscous, vulgar etc when young/middle aged, why would they suddenly become all beige and respectable when they retire? Not my kind of holiday companion irrespective of their age, but sounds like good tv, shall watch it!!

shysal Thu 10-Jul-14 18:28:06

Apparently one of the holidaymakers to be shown is AKA Leapy Lee, who sang 'Little Arrows' years ago. Think it was a 'one hit wonder'.

Sun seeker

We used to go to Puerto de la Cruz, 20 odd years ago.

It was very nice but we didn't like the black sand. Hubby went swimming there and a day after he said 'My foot is killing me, take a look'. His foot was pebble dashed with black volcanic grit, just like buckshot.. The undercurrent is so strong in places. Took years for it to all work itself out!

The coastal walk is lovely isn't it. I use a mobility scooter so I certainly get around. Yes it has bars, shops etc but a lot of open spaces in between. Not everyone's cup of tea but we agree a lot of money has been spent there. We stop at the LA Siesta usually which is in the heart of everything but it is so quiet during the day and night you forget your in the mix of it all.

Enjoy your September break. smile

POGS DH and I used to stay in Los Cristianos - when we first started going there was only one hotel and just a few bars - very friendly locals. I stayed in Adeje in March and walked through to Los Cristianos past Las Americas and there certainly has been a lot of money spent there. I am going back to Puerto de la Cruz in September, do you know it? Its in the north of the island so is greener and although it is a holiday town, is still quite pretty in places.

Well Gillybob I am very pleased that it is only his nectarines he is squeezing. grin

Ch 5 at 9 tonight. Can hardly wait !

gillybob Thu 10-Jul-14 13:29:51

I am so curious now that I am definitely going to search for the program and bloomin well watch it !

gillybob Thu 10-Jul-14 13:28:39

No need to be sorry Hollydaze Ana's comment made me chuckle too.

I am cursed blessed with a very vivid imagination ! grin

Many years ago I used to work with a guy who fitted this description perfectly, infact he used to "brag" that he took 2 women on holiday with him (to keep him satisfied) gross........ He also took every opportunity to hoik his shirt up and rub his (old man) hairy chest. Used to make me feel sick imagining him on holiday in his budgie smugglers !

HollyDaze Thu 10-Jul-14 12:41:55

Well, as you've seen neither the trailer nor the programme (which isn't on until tomorrow), you certainly seem to have a very good imagination, gillybob!

Sorry gillybob but Ana's comment did make me chuckle grin

rosequartz Wed 09-Jul-14 23:19:34

Didn't notice any drunks, young or old, when we were there recently. However, we didn't venture very far from our hotel at night. And when we came back from a trip on the coach right the way along the coast at night it seemed fairly quiet.

What did we miss? (Thank goodness)

rosequartz Wed 09-Jul-14 23:16:19

Gillybob, you must have had the same history teacher as me. After the mocks she wrote 'your answers owe more to imagination than fact'. I must have read too many Jean Plaidy novels!

gillybob Wed 09-Jul-14 23:06:42

..... Scratching his bits grey hairy chest and then squeezing the nectarines..... shock

gillybob Wed 09-Jul-14 23:04:36

Yes Ana. "Gilly has a wonderfully over active imagination" was written on my final school report by my history teacher grin. I honestly haven't seen the trailer but can imagine all the things I hate to see on holiday all lumped together. Gross.

Oh forgot to add an old person man in the supermarket without a shirt on. Yuk .

POGS Wed 09-Jul-14 23:02:46

I've delayed posting on here because I have a confession to make.

We go to Tenerife every November, to have a good holiday and enjoy having a good time. blush

Shock and horror we go to Playa de las Americas. If we want a good laugh and friendly company we know where to go. If we want a quiet time we know where to go. The resort has altered greatly over the last few years, with EU money! and there are some great restaurants and bars. The coastal walk is excellent from Los Christianos to Adeje and you have the sea on your side for miles. It is extremely clean and the beaches are very good.

Not everyones cup of tea I know but I would say don't be too snobby about Tenerife, it has a lovely climate throughout the winter months as the Canary Islands all do, hence the large numbers of visitors it received all year round.

The show will I am sure make it look like the Barmy Army are all there! They might well be. grin

Ana Wed 09-Jul-14 22:53:24

Well, as you've seen neither the trailer nor the programme (which isn't on until tomorrow), you certainly seem to have a very good imagination, gillybob! grin

gillybob Wed 09-Jul-14 22:50:01

Haven't seen the program or the trailer and I'm not sure I want to . There is something disgusting about older people being drunk and disorderly, overly sexual, using foul language and walking around in bikinis and/or budgie smugglers! I think I am probably a prude but I find this kind of behavior stomach churning. shock
