Oh dear - more mumbling and far too depressing for a Sunday night - did anyone 'enjoy' this.

PRINTMISS Mon 02-Jun-14 16:09:41

Very atmospheric, and great acting, looking forward to next week's episode.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 02-Jun-14 12:01:26

Yes. I think so. They must have read Twitter.

Marmight Mon 02-Jun-14 11:57:40

I think their 'techies' fiddled with the sound during the week. It was much better last night.

ninathenana Mon 02-Jun-14 11:08:00

I wasn't going to bother after last week but DH wanted to watch it. I enjoyed this episode.

Soutra Mon 02-Jun-14 10:59:54

I enjoyed the books and watched it on TV for the first time yesterday. I liked it a lot and can't understand the moans about "mumbling". Yes it is dark but Dublin in the 50s was a dark dingy shabby place.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 02-Jun-14 10:50:55

It's very atmospheric somehow. It will be completely redeemed next week when a new upcoming young actor joins the cast/story. smile

I had the subs on as insurance but did n't really need them this time.

Mishap Mon 02-Jun-14 10:25:25

Tried part of the first episode then switched off and have no plans to switch it on again!

Charleygirl Mon 02-Jun-14 10:19:49

Much better than last week although a bit slow to start. I found it easier to watch switching on the sub titles. Still dark though.

I find it quite relaxing after Happy Valley.

merlotgran Sun 01-Jun-14 22:41:46

We missed it last week as we were away so it took me a while to work out who was who. I thought it was a good plot but turned up the volume because of the usual mumbling.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 01-Jun-14 22:37:16

I loved it this week. Heard every word too! smile

I gave up as well it was so badly lit . More stupid directors thinking they are being "cool "How do we campaign for Drama producers to stop putting every thing into deepest gloom.
I really detest it peering at such a dark screen it's miserable to watch.

rosesarered Tue 27-May-14 13:16:31

thought it was predictable rubbish, turned it off after 20 mins of trying! As others say, dark as well and lots of mumbling.

Marmight Tue 27-May-14 13:14:11

I kept going with it - with the sound on the telly turned right up and still I couldn't make out what they were saying. I nearly fell out of bed when I put the news on the next morning - it was so LOUD grin

GrandmaSandra Tue 27-May-14 13:09:45

I tried too, but too dark and so mumbled. Don'tthink I'll watch it again.

numberplease Tue 27-May-14 00:27:08

Gave up after 15 minutes.

Grannyknot Mon 26-May-14 22:56:53

We thought it was dire. Bailed after 15 minutes.

sunseeker Mon 26-May-14 22:42:26

I watched because I am a fan of Gabriel Byrne, I certainly guessed where the plot was going. I will watch next week as some series do take time to set the scene and develop the characters.

NanKate Mon 26-May-14 20:04:51

Reading all your comments my finger is about to delete the programme. I don't want to waste time watching mumbling. Thanks for saving me time.

tattynan Mon 26-May-14 19:10:02

Not very impressed by this. The plot was very easy to predict.

Lona Mon 26-May-14 18:17:04

I tried, I really did, but a predictable plot, boozy Irishmen, dark and gloomy............... GN won hands down!

Nothing against boozy Irishmen, but I'm sure there must be one or two who are sober grin

Charleygirl Mon 26-May-14 18:04:44

I stuck with it- also thought that there was a lot of mumbling and again, very dark at times. It was a bit predictable-there is little else to watch on Sunday.

whenim64 Mon 26-May-14 17:35:09

Bit on the dark side and slow paced, but I really got stuck into it and will watch the next ones. Gave it the benefit of the doubt because I'm an In Treatment fan, and Gabriel Byrne is a similar flawed character in this.

J52 Mon 26-May-14 17:29:08

Dreadful, mumbling, too dark and I was not too sure where the plot? was going. Nothing new in the adopted baby theme. There have been much better dramas on the theme. Won't watch again! X

BeeWitch Mon 26-May-14 17:17:16

I managed to sit through it - didn't like it. Only watched it because I like Gabriel Byrne. Won't be watching next week. Wish I'd watched BBC2 because Ab Fab was on grin.
