I also had to time my ear in for the broad accents in Shetland.

Talking of the end being ruined by trailers - nothing is more annoying than when you are sitting in quiet reflection at the end of a good programme listening to the music or song at the end, and suddenly (usually a woman) starts braying loudly over the soundtrack about what comes next. Sky is the worst for that.

I watched Shetland (with subtitles on). Always think Dougie Henshall is worth watching.

Having read a couple of DCI Banks books a while ago now it took me a bit of time to realise the tv series was based on those books.

Enjoyed the programme but agree that the stories are a mish mash of the books. The books are excellent. It is worth it though just to see the scenery! Also agree that Banks is all wrong. Vera is all wrong too though Brenda Blethyn is a really good actress. I guess it is always going to be difficult to bring to life books you have known and loved.

I enjoyed it and would probably have enjoyed it more if I hadn't already read the books. Like you, Charley, I feel the same about the DCI Robinson series.

Ana I'm always poised finger on the remote to quickly change channels before the "next week" trailer.
I had forgotten about the previous series until I started watching tonight.

I know Merlotgran, I couldn't watch DCI Banks at all... it was all wrong! He was all wrong!

I watched it and was impressed by the acting. And the views.

Flowerofthewest Tue 11-Mar-14 22:14:23

Yes, just watched it and as good as the last series.

I read the book "Bad Boy" but did not recognise it from the DCI Banks 2 parter this week and last. I did enjoy both the book and TV version.

merlotgran Tue 11-Mar-14 22:08:38

Same with DCI Banks, mollie. The latest books have been written around the TV character and not the original Alan Banks.

I enjoyed it - but I do wish they wouldn't give so much away in the trailers which follow straight afterwards. I know I should just turn off/over quickly, but they always take me by surprise...

mollie Tue 11-Mar-14 22:03:47

Enjoy the series but don't rush off to read the books. They aren't the same and you'll be annoyed (as I am) about the changes ... Ann Cleeves books are excellent and in my opinion they've mish-mashed the stories and taken huge liberties. But it's television...

I persuaded DH to abandon the football. It's great but I needed to tune my ear in....nearly switched the subtitles on at the beginning.

Charleygirl Tue 11-Mar-14 22:00:48

I knew that there was something that I should record and totally forgot about it

numberplease Tue 11-Mar-14 21:47:31

Had to record it because of the blasted football!

rosesarered Tue 11-Mar-14 21:11:13

Damn! Wanted to watch that, I will have to download it on catch up tv.

Grannyknot Tue 11-Mar-14 21:07:04

Crime thriller BTW not a documentary!

Grannyknot Tue 11-Mar-14 21:02:17

Just settling down to watch this with great expectations smile
