I have been puzzling about the voiceover artist on this trailer which we have been hearing ad nauseam for weeks now. I have discovered that it's Charles Dance but I find its foreboding tone rather too gloomy. What does anyone else think?

There does seem to be a dark element hanging over these games. Just a bad feeling about them. Perhaps it's this advert Anno

I'd realised it was Charles Dance....who I used to quite fancy in 'Jewel in the Crown' but he's slipped way down my list and is now just known as Tulkinghorn.

Yes is all very forbidding and I am puzzled by the thinking behind it...Nordic Noir?, was it thought up purely by the BBC or imposed by the Russians? Any way its NOT making me want to watch, which is a shame because being a non sporty type the Winter Olympics has always been my preferred choice....Torvil and Dean legacy I suppose.

It is rather sinister, I seem to have heard the words before though, wonder if they are from a poem? Somebody will know on here soon.I suppose that it does get our attention though, so in advertising terms it's working.

I wish they'd asked the Jamaican 'Cool Runnings' people to do the Winter Olympics trailer. It would have been much more cheerfull, I'm sure.

Yes, I'm not at all sure about the trailer either.

I like it. Very Game of Thrones. Sort of. smile

I think it is absolutely dreadful, it has really put me off wanting to watch it and when I saw some snow boarding on the news today, I found the advert hanging over me like a dark cloud.

This dark dreadful black shadow that is the trailer is so out of keeping with the whiteness, light and sheer exhilaration that is winter sports.

Do we really need these adverts, which must be costly to make, to encourage us to watch these programmes. There is another current BBC offering for Radio 3, too - I would much prefer BBC with none of this, it is possible to turn over to another BBC channel only to be faced with yet another re-run of the same ad.
Like you, HildaW, I'm not sporty so I really enjoy the winter Olympics, they are unusual, very scenic and exciting too. I just need the rules for ice hocky and could the men curling so well come and brush down my yard when they're finished?!

I just love the "Gay Mountain" ad on Channel 4 that is in support of Sochi 2014....such fun!!
