I love nearly all the subtitled detective ones, Swedish, Italian whatever.
Always sad when a good series ends.
I loved it, such good actors and will look forward to Series 3 , it wouldn't be the same without the Saga- Martin chemistry!
Now I see a new Belgian series starts next Saturday . We enjoy the BBC4 Saturday nights!
They will both be in it as I understand - but how long will we have to wait?
According to the blog Martin will be in the next series, but we may have to wait ages before it's on here
.
I loved it!! I think Saga would have to turn Martin in (being the person she was) but it was so sad when she said he was her only friend.
We thought the ending was brilliant, and can't wait for series 3. Saw the two actors who play Martin and Saga while waiting for the car to be serviced, she was so different, very lively and beautiful. Shows just how good the acting has been throughout this series. I also loved the French/English version of series 1, "The Tunnel".
A perfect ending totally in keeping with the story and leaving us in suspense. No happy ever after solutions for the Bridge! I even got upset about Pernille, and she was not one of my favourite characters. But the acting was just so good. And I really don't think Martin killed Jens.
I wasn't shocked, I knew she would have to do it because she was so open. Having to lie to get her sister away from her parents was probably the only lie she told in her life, born of desperation, and much as she loved Martin as a friend she would never be able to do that for him.
I had to stay up and watch ABBA after that, just to be able to sleep! It was brilliant, I shall really miss it.
It wasn't ever said that Gertrud and Philip worked together, I assume they did know about each other but maybe not. Gertrud did seem a bit too nice, so I was suspicious of her. I'm so pleased that they are making a new series, but i suppose that they storyline would have to be continued in a future series, as the Evil Mastermind probably has to start plotting all over again - he has killed all of his little helpers!
Was shocked at Saga turning Martin in. I can see why, it would have been a real struggle for her to have 'kept a secret' due to her condition.
I remember asking a child who had Aspergers 'Can you put you shoes on?' He replied 'Yes' 10 minutes later he still hadn't put them on. Well I did ask could he do the task and he replied truthfully but they were still waiting to be put on.
Another time when working with a young lady who had Autism (we used a picture board with her to help her to understand her next activity) We were hurrying to take the children out for the day (bad move to hurry) I went to her bedroom as said gently to her that it was time to get up showing her the board, she removed the picture and put it in the little bag. I left for a while to give her time. She was still in bed on my return so I said 'Get up on and go to the toiled (forgetting the board) she promptly got up and weed on the floor. I never made that mistake again.
Must admit as much as a love this series...and the previous one, I do find myself having to walk away and make a cup of tea or similar just to break the spell. This was especially true last night, it just all got a bit too much for me. I managed to find a bit of tidying up that needed doing once I realised Victoria was going to be the biological bomb....came back just for the last few mins. Its brilliant stuff but not the thing to go to bed on when you have a bit of a worry wort personality.
That being said will be there for the next series as whatever its subject matter its so much better than the dire stuff we have on most of the time. Just hope it does not go down the doing nasty stuff to children route that always makes me turn off.
merlotgran
I was bracing myself for a plane crash that didn't happen, the image of Jens made me jump out of my skin as well, poor Pernille blowing her brains out, Saga dusting off the old photo of her sister, Mette bringing up four kids on her own, Saga has dobbed Martin in because people with Aspergers cannot lie and the baddie's still out there.......just the nice kind of cheerful stuff I like to go to bed on
Yes - picked up on the Gertrud/Oliver thing. Couldn't understand that.
It appeared that she only found out by chance that he had a video link to his sister's home; and that she was unaware that he was perpetrating all these crimes - although for the sake of his sister rather than the saving of the planet.
That being so, what about the chaps on the animal suits at the beginning? - were they working for Oliver?
And was the final crime (the human biological bomb) the only one that Gertrud was involved in? And did she not know her OH was doing these other things?
Whew - my brain hurts!
DH said, similar - but yes, she had to. She has to do things exactly as they should be done. Black is black, etc. And of course, Martin would know she would have to follow this through.
Talking of colours, we spoke of this too. All very bleak and cold-looking - all greyish!
SPOILER ALERT IN CASE YOU'VE NOT YET WATCHED FINAL EPISODE
I'm still a bit confused as to how Gertrud was involved but only in part of it, because Oliver was up to other stuff.
Re the 'oh no, not Martin, Saga, how could you?' it was harsh and I said that out loud and husband stuck up for her saying 'She can't help it, she has to do it'.
However she 'fessed up to having committed a crime so if I was Martin I'd be doing a tit for tat. Also, I don't understand why he would have carried the empty coffee container all the way back to the hotel, plus, maybe he didn't do it. But if he did, he'll never work as a policeman again
There will be a series 3. We may not know who killed Gertrud. And he says characters come and go and don't always have closure; they're just incidental [so good job I didn't try to understand it then
]. The bit where Jens appeared behind Martin made me jump out of my skin
! And I sooo want Saga to find some sort of happiness one day
.
Love the music.
Yes - but we still do not know who the "Mr Big" is! That is so frustrating! And he is still on the loose! I suppose that makes a third series possible!
Checking out the live blog at the moment. 400 questions and counting at the moment. Don't think the writer is going to find time to answer all of them. Feel a bit let down by the ending but have to admit to not actually understanding any of it so far [which doesn't stop me enjoying it, though].
The end of Bridge 2 and what a good watch it was. Looking forward to Bridge 3 in time and Salamander next week.
I'm gutted.
Oh no! Oh Saga not Martin! How could you?

Even the colours are bleak! Have you noticed that nobody wears bright colours, it's all pretty monochrome, clothes, buildings, just about everything. I wonder if it was filmed through a 'filter'?It fits with the programme though.Wallander was filmed like that also.
From what I've read The Tunnel was a good adaptation; I've got an article [on my pile of 'articles to read'] about how they found locations for The Tunnel. I do think, though, that these Scandinavian series need to bleakness of those countries, as the scenery is so integral to the storyline. I advised a friend to watch it before this current series became so raunchy
