Gravity and The Selfish Giant

I'd quite like to see Gravity, but I'm thinking it would be best in 3D. Unfortunately my husband suffers from motion sickness he can't stand anything floating or flashing around, or hand held camera shots. In one of the early Harry Potters we saw with the kids, he had to walk out when a Ford Anglia was airborne and whizzing and whirling about. Such a curse!

Don't know how I missed this thread? Not sure about The Selfish Giant. I think it was so highly acclaimed I was expecting more. The boys in it were brilliant. I think I needed to think it through a lot more. Just saw Saving Mr Banks. A bit overlong and sentimental but Tom Hanks is always watchable and, just as I was thinking that it wasn't as good as the reviews had made out, I found I had tears streaming down my face. If anyone does see it, you must watch it right to the end of the credits .

My friend wants me to go with him to see The Selfish Giant. His daughter in law plays the policewoman. I'm not that keen on gritty social realism stuff these days though I suppose I will end up going.

A nephew recommended Gravity but said it was best seen in a 3D cinema.

I'd wait till it's out on dvd. One of those films where the cinema turned the lights on as soon as it had ended as the ending was so sudden we were all a bit confused. Whereas, with the Mary Poppins film, the audience didn't move because they were transfixed [and probably blubbing like me].

Eloethan I loved Gravity but saw it in 3D, that's what made it great. It would be nothing special on DVD.

I am dying to see Saving Mr Phillips.

I saw Selfish Giant..it was a good film and I 'enjoyed' the film although the story is not an enjoyabe one..if that makes sense!

DH wants to see Gravity but I have not ever managed to stay awake for 2001 Space Oddessy yet!

Anyone seen Blue is the Warmest Colour...that was good film too.

Incredibly good reviews but the trailer didn't grab me. I have to be careful at our cinema; because they show a lot of unusual films I have to restrict how many I go to [could be there every night if I let myself]. There's one about Chess playing at the moment,but can't fit that in with Saving Mr Banks, Nebraska and the Hunger Games. But I'll look out for it if it comes back to the Quad [they often bring films back; just going to check it now].

The Mercy-seat was a solid sheet or slab of pure gold. Though a separate and distinct article in itself, it formed the lid of the Ark, being placed "above upon the Ark"; whose "crown of gold round about" (forming the top of its sides) would support and prevent it from slipping off. The Mercy-seat differed from the Ark in that no wood entered into its composition. There was only one other piece of furniture in the Tabernacle made solely of gold, namely the candlestick, which was smaller in size and weight; therefore the Mercy-seat, according to its intrinsic worth, was the most valuable of all the holy vessels. How this tells us of the preciousness in the sight of God of that which the Mercy-seat foreshadowed.

The Mercy-seat, or better, the Propitiatory, derived its name from the blood of propitiation which was sprinkled thereon. It was the same length and breadth as the Ark, being two and a half by one cubit and a half. At either end of it was a cherub, not fastened thereto, but beaten out of the same one piece of gold of which the Mercy-seat was formed. These symbolic figures had their wings outstretched, thus overshadowing the Mercy-seat, with their faces looking down upon it.
