I couldn't believe what I was seeing when they made those custard tarts. Very funny! grin

I love the Bake Off. I thought the one where they tried to get the custard tarts out of the baking trays and on to the cake stands was one of the funniest things I have seen for a long long time. They're all so serious about it.
I don't have a favourite (like most of them) but I agree with Ariadne - that Ruby is beginning to annoy me too.

I like Wheeler Dealers as well as Bake Off Ariadne although I don't often get to watch it. I like the fact that they pick up so many of their spares in breakers yards like real people do smile

Mr. Mamie bakes all our bread so he always watches it, though he was so angry about the result last year that he had threatened to refuse to watch this year. He doesn't rate Paul Hollywood as a baker though.

I'm enjoying it very much, and I agree, can't see any of the men getting through. Kimberley is the best, and also the most engaging personality. No fuss, no angst, just capable and imaginative. Ruby annoys me - everything is such a trauma.

Theseus can't leave the room fast enough when it's on! He despises food programmes anyway ("poncy") and wonders why anyone could be bothered. But then I reminded him of all the birthday cakes I have produced over the years, of which he approved, and he had the grace to say they were great but I didn't faff around, just got on with it.

I feel the same about "Wheeler Dealers" etc!!

What do we think so far? I love Kimberley. Cheerful, highly competent, unfussy and it all looks delicious. I think Ruby is good, but the doe-eyed stuff annoys me. I like Howard, but can't see any of the men as winners this year.

To my mind Maniac Bored of is right up there with Should of !!! But I'm still loving The Bake Off - nice relaxing viewing and it's so good to watch other people dropping stuff smile

The cake my DD made for my DGD's 2nd birthday was one of the ones shown at the end of the programme in the number 2 cake montage. I'm very proud of her. It also tasted delicious.

'The Wright Stuff' yesterday had a phone-in on 'Are you bored of British Bake'
I am bored with British Bake !

I think the tent is supposed to give us the whole 'Great British village fete' feel....and I suspect the filming was back in our so called spring when it was pretty parky!

merlotgran Wed 21-Aug-13 10:32:44

Why does it have to be staged in a tent? It's filmed in early spring and it must be cold because they all wear so many clothes. I don't like seeing aprons on top of fleeces, padded jackets, layers of jumpers etc. It's just doesn't go with a baking image of warmth and comfort.

They could tart up the Masterchef kitchen and give it a country barn look for the 'feelgood' factor. Might save a bob or two of licence payers' money.

Having said that, they're probably filmed at the same time....hmm

The participants seemed more nervous than those on the past, perhaps because there is so much more interest than before. I just love the programme, my only 'must watch' at the moment. Paul was quite kind last night, wonder if he has decided to tone down his comments.

I was pleased to see a gluten free cake smile something I could bake and actually eat for a change !

Deedaa Tue 20-Aug-13 23:09:21

I was getting quite hungry watching - must have dinner later next week smile

merlotgran Tue 20-Aug-13 22:32:46

I've gone off him after the way he treated his wife and son.

HildaW Tue 20-Aug-13 22:31:06

Well, not a bad assortment although one is definitely a clone of last years chap ... Bernard or similar. Who do you think will make Mr Hollywood smile?
