Well, not a bad assortment although one is definitely a clone of last years chap ... Bernard or similar. Who do you think will make Mr Hollywood smile?

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Tue 22-Oct-13 16:08:53

<whispers> I want Kimberley

shysal Tue 22-Oct-13 15:34:29

Any predictions for tonight's final? I don't mind as long as it is not Ruby, but think Kimberley might win.

Hunt Thu 17-Oct-13 23:28:23

I agree with you ,Maniac, totally bored with all these cooking programmes.

Flowerofthewest Thu 17-Oct-13 20:52:07

Poser! is Paul

annodomini Thu 17-Oct-13 16:34:25

It seems to me that Paul Hollywood's accent has become less Scouse as time has gone on! Is he going all posh on us?

ginny Thu 17-Oct-13 16:27:23

It's a pity all the judging can't be done in the same way as the technical challenge. There could be no allegations of favouritism.

merlotgran Thu 17-Oct-13 14:53:04

Apparently GBBO is moving to BBC1 next year as it attracts over 7million viewers. Unless they seriously change the format (and the judging) surely viewers will get bored with it?

Mary Berry seems less enchanted with Paul Hollywood this series and his macho man appearance is starting to look a bit desperate.

Flowerofthewest Thu 17-Oct-13 11:33:57

Me too!

annodomini Wed 16-Oct-13 22:15:23

I agree, Deedaa - it has gone on long enough and I'm glad the final is next week.

Deedaa Wed 16-Oct-13 21:55:28

I quite like Ruby HildaW but I agree that Kimberley looks like the winner. I'm finding it a bit flat now there are no men left, you seem to get more interesting bakes when there's a mix.

merlotgran Wed 16-Oct-13 15:21:51

Sorry, HildaW, but I think Ruby knows exactly what she's doing

I hope the bit about her getting her own programme is a joke. hmm

HildaW Wed 16-Oct-13 13:06:09

Strewth, had no idea Ruby was annoying some folks....she's very young to be such a good baker. To me, she appears quite genuine, a real mixture of lack of confidence coupled with real ability that she does not fully understand. Its a trait I recognise in my own family and its perfectly accountable. I think she is a sweetie and I just hope she has enjoyed her experience.
I do however, think Kimberly is the most likely winner, she wonderful mixture of skill, enthusiasm and competence has been a joy to watch.

Flowerofthewest Wed 16-Oct-13 12:25:57

Watched catchup of the last two GBBO. Still think Ruby is a simpering, posing, sulky, self depreciating madam who makes soppy cow eyes at the Hollywood. Pouting, crying yuk. Felt sorry for the one sent home this week. I do like Kimberley though and hope she wins. She is so genuine. Sorry Ruby!!! you are not.

baubles Wed 16-Oct-13 11:35:22

I agree that Ruby is a little irritating, however it is a baking competition and her "bakes" usually taste great even if they don't look perfect.

annodomini Wed 16-Oct-13 10:52:04

Ruby has been star baker at least once, though I never thought she deserved it. She's a terrible poseur with all that little girl pouting. I like Kimberley for her business-like demeanour and she does show pleasure when her work is praised, so - not entirely 'self contained', Granart.

merlotgran Wed 16-Oct-13 10:37:00

And I can't see why the results are always based on the show stopper. It doesn't seem to matter if the earlier stuff ends up on the floor so long as they win the show stopper round.

merlotgran Wed 16-Oct-13 10:35:12

I fear this series will follow the same format of the others. The consistently good contestants like Kimberly and Frances will be trounced by a late improver (if you can call Ruby's efforts and improvement.) All previous disasters are forgotten so long as something passable is produced in the final. Ruby does not deserve to win.

Championing a no hoper might be good for the ratings but it's so unfair on the ones that have a genuine talent.

Granart Wed 16-Oct-13 10:26:48

I think the results were fair based on performances yesterday. Banoffee for a luxury opera cake seemed pedestrian to me. I find it hard to connect with Kimberley as she is so self contained. So I really don't have a favourite.

ginny Wed 16-Oct-13 10:16:26

I agree, Ruby really irritates me . Sulky face and 'Oh, I'm useless it's all gone wrong'. She should have gone last night. I hope she is not the winner. Don't mind either of the others winning.

Flowerofthewest Tue 15-Oct-13 21:09:13

Is that Ruby still making cow-eyes at Mr Hollywood and he at her. Cannot stand the girl. I don't usually take exception to contestants on TV but she is rather simpering.

merlotgran Tue 15-Oct-13 21:03:02

What on earth is going on? Ruby should NOT have got through to the final. She was awful. Poor Becca.

whenim64 Sun 22-Sept-13 22:33:02

On a cookery programme a few days ago (forget which - I watch so many) it was announced that stacking days are over now. It's morsels of food laid out artistically with dabs of purée, a swish of jus, a few little drops of flavoured oil, a sprinkle of micro herbs........... Just give me a decent plate of food and enough with the pretentiousness. grin

Deedaa Sun 22-Sept-13 21:50:30

I hate all the stacking of food nowadays. Saturday Kitchen is particularly bad for it. Meat and two veg and some sauce and "jus" (!!!) all piled on top of each other. How on earth are you supposed to eat it? And it will be piled on a piece of slate so that all the sauces run off the edges.

annodomini Sun 22-Sept-13 21:22:49

Anyway, what was that stacking business all about? Who actually serves cakes/biscuits like that? I don't think that was a good challenge.

annodomini Sun 22-Sept-13 21:21:52

I was quite worried about Kimberley last week - she had been my favourite to win until then - let's hope she raises her game this week.
