Obsessive compulsive cleaners.

I found this programme fascinating, find it difficult to understand either end of the range of people shown, but reckon they are all ill. There was a lady who cleans her windows several times a day, especially after rain, and a man who had never cleaned his junk-filled house in 15 years!
I think I fit somewhere in the middle of the spectrum, doing just enough housework to be healthy, and being a bit of a squirrel but most stuff behind cupboard or box room doors or in loft. What about you?

My interest in cleaning is reflected in the fact that I didn't watch the programme shysal grin

I have a fridge magnet that says 'Dull women have immaculate homes.'

And that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

So there.

Can't the obsession be spread about a bit? Or does it just relate to their own homes? Does anyone know an obsessive oven cleaner who's run out of ovens?

Should you find one Lily please send them here afterwards!!grin

Think I fall in the middle too - and I also like to have a place to keep things - this has got more important the older we have got or I can never find anything. Years ago my mother said to me that the size of house was not so important as having enough storage - if most things have a 'home' you do tend to put it back after usage.

Didn't see the programme, shysal, but I do know people like that. When I was a young mum one of my friends would only allow her little boy one toy out at a time to play with, because of the 'mess' he made confused. Another elderly lady I know hoovers the whole house every day. She irons already ironed clothes and lays them out each evening for the next day for her husband and herself. In neither house have I ever seen any books!
I tend to, now and again, hoover....sometimes. I have a really tiny house with lots of clutter and books here and there (dust catchers as my mother would call them). smile

I'm just a slut when it comes to housework - life's too darned short! If I dust, I like to see a good thick layer that gives some job satisfaction!

I used to be obssessive about disinfecting the inside of the kitchen door where we came in with our shoes on. It's slipped a bit now.

j08 Thu 14-Feb-13 11:44:02

I mean the floor just inside!

j08 Thu 14-Feb-13 11:45:13

sorry I spelt "obsessive" wrong

kittylester Thu 14-Feb-13 12:15:47

I've got that one too Joan smile

Therefore, I must be the least dull woman any of you know!!

What about the lady who washes all her food shopping before putting it away? I might occasionally wipe a dusty can before opening it, but that is all. I think she is the one who spends about 8 hours a day doing housework. Another cleaned her bath with a long-handled mop and neat bleach because she could not be near the skin cells that were lurking. The programme sent these people (including one man) to clear the houses of the hoarders and also a drop in centre for the hungry to prevent it failing an inspection.

Quentin Crisp used to say the dust doesn't get any worse after 5 years. And I'm with Mishap, I want to see where I've been.
