Eggheads

I thought it was just me but you are quite right the quality of the guests seems to of really gone down hill lately . I've hardly bothered to watch lately Oh is still a fan..

Perhaps they ARE auditioned, I was for Fifteen-to-One. I must admit, the contestants have been pretty poor lately. I`m also getting fed up with smarmy Jeremy Vine calling the new Egghead Tremendous Knowledge Dave, he`s not THAT great!

I gave up watching it a long time ago as it was so rubbishy. Ditto Mastermind.

Even on University Challenge, the general knowledge of the students is dreadfully poor.
I wonder if they are only taught to pass exams and not to gain knowledge.

I could not agree more! I also find Eggheads desperately slooow . One I do like is Only Connect it reminds me of Round Britain Quiz (radio) which was wonderfully devious.

Eggheads team struggled on Only Connect. Because their skill is retaining facts rather than application of skills and knowledge they found it harder to cope with the Only Connect format. The were not disaster but you could see them less smug than usual!

Round Britain Quiz is still on the radio. Crossword puzzle clues. I like it. I thought the Eggheads had just got into their stride on Only Connect by the time the programme ended. The children on University Challenge know stuff I don't know but they also don't know things I think they should. But there is a disturbing variation in the teams. When they don't get to the buzzer on time, that's understandable, but you can tell from the teams who can't answer the questions that follow the starter. The Chase isn't bad when you get a good team but they are obviously told to have a go at the chaser in a particularly irritating and childish fashion, 'I will take you down' and so on. They hardly ever do. Almost as bad as the sophisticated repartee on The Weakest Link which I stopped watching a long time ago. But Pointless rules!

Like Perfection but Pointless is my favourite.

What channel is Only Connect on? I haven`t heard of it before.

BBC4, on Monday evenings though it may be off the air at present.

Only Connect isn't on at the moment but if you go to the BBC website you can find information about the programme and have a go on their connecting walls which will give you a feel of the game.
I too am often stunned by the things people don't know. There are so many things I learnt at school - not stuff for exams, but just things that were interesting and broadened our knowledge of the world. How can people cope with the future when they all seem to be leaving school with no idea how we got to where we are?
