I watched this because I wanted to see Neil Diamond, but it was toe-curlingly naff. He should retire, as his voice has lost its timbre.
The comedians made embarrassing jokes about the Queen and were not remotely funny.
The dancing dog and the Chinese Tenors were the best things for me.
Poor Queen, fancy having to sit through that every year for 60 years, stay awake and look pleased.

I agree re Neil Diamond, he's another one whose voice has gone. How can they not realise?

I only saw Bill Bailey and Bruce F. Bill Bailey's set about music was funny but Bruce...oh dear.

Yes, Bill Bailey is very talented - but he is much funnier on HIGNFY or QI!

I saw half of it. I usually like David Walliams but the jokes were excruciating and much of the humour was unfunny. Alan Carr is hilarious in his Chatty Man show, and live concerts, but the Pudsey item was poor.

Did the Duke not say that they didn't mind going to the Performance ashe and the Queen were both tone-deaf? grin Just as well!

Who was the woman who screeched her way through 'I will always love you'?
On the odd occasion when I have accidentally switched on to 'The X factor' it has seemed to me that all pop singers now feel the need to wail at the top of their voice and the lyrics wander about without any rhyme or scansion.
(Oh, I am so old - my dad said that about Elvis Presley.)

Neil Diamond managed to murder one of his best songs. 'Hello Again' has a very simple melody but is achingly beautiful. Loved Bill Bailey but the rest was awful. It would have been nice to see some new talent and not so many boring flashbacks to dead comedians but in DH's opinion, there isn't any new talent and his favourite programme is still Dad's Army hmm

Greatnan I don't know her name but she is the singer who is in the stage version of "The Bodyguard" on in London at the moment I believe.I certainly would not queue to buy tickets for that show.

Among the phrases that make me cringe is 'Royal Variety Performance'. So, no, I didn't watch it and, having read this thread, I'm know I'm vindicated. [smug emoticon]
