Salmon Fishing in the Yemen

well KST is undoubtedly the reason to go and see this.
I imagine the yemeni tourist board is probably not getting much of a return on their cinema ads though. pity .

Has anyone noticed that they have changed the ad in the papers for Salmon Fishing? It now has Kristin Scott Thomas also standing by the dam. Rather obviously bodged in, but it's good to see an 'older' woman getting recognition for her part in making the film such a success. Rather like Rupert Everett's cameo becoming a star turn in My Best Friend's Wedding, if anyone remembers that. I bet crimson will!

Jacey Just checked, Breakfast at the Hotel Deja Vu.

He's just short of Elverum where he will stay for a night or two with friends. It's Norwegian National Day on the 17th May, so he'll have an opportunity to join in with the local celebrations.

Jacey sorry I did not have time to elaborate this morning. His second book was The Hopeless Life of Charlie Summers, which I dashed out and bought. He writes amusingly, but I didn't really enjoy it because it was all about conmen, one city boy and one almost a tramp, and I find the subject too painful to read about. In mitigation it does have an absolutely marvellous ending. I have got a short one of his on my iPad, I think it was an early Kindle offer. It's called something like Lunch at the Deja Vu. I will report back when I've read it.

grannyactivist where abouts has your OH got to in Norway?

Saw this film with my son last night (my social life has been very busy since the Wonderful Man left me for his bicycle) and we both enjoyed it as the light romcom that it is. Agree that KST was the star of the show.

Looked wonderful, but no fishing offered.

We had friends staying during the terrible weather we've been subjected to recently, so took them to the cinema to see Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. We all adored it. It was very funny and quite moving. And KST was marvellous, and had all the best lines. I would thoroughly recommend it. Ditto The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel with the delectable Bill Nighy.

I think Sarahs Key was a very underrated film. When I saw it at the cinema the whole room was silent and tearful at the end; that hasn't happened with many films I've seen. There was an advert for holidays in the Yemen before the film; they should have mentioned then that there was no fishing to be had! I watched Super 8 the other night, having missed it at the cinema. It was awful. I keep seeing highly rated films and hating them; beginning to wonder if it is just me.

I see the Yememy tourist board has issued a statement to the effect that English tourists should understand that there is no salmon fishing in the Yemem, as there have been so many enquiries - -ye gods!!

Just succumbed and ordered DVD of Sarah's Key. Fairly recent KST film about the deportation of French Jews from Paris. Harrowing but wonderful. Highly recommended.

I'd love to be one of those Anglo French actresses like Charlotte Rampling and KST; there's something so glamorous about them in a totally 'anti Joan Collins' sort of way.

I agree completely with ganja the political satire in the first part very, very funny if you are into that kind of thing. And KST stole the show.

Great casting except perhaps Emily a little lightweight.
I loved KST in "I've loved you so long" It's in French with subtitles but HIGHLY recommended.

Yes, I did ogm. I must Google the 'warlord' myself. I'm finding the mother's story so interesting - what a strange upbringing she had. This book is getting more interesting by the page. Thanks for the recommendation

whenim64 glad you are enjoying the book, did you see the news recently, about Sudan? Reading the book put things into perspective for me. I've also 'googled' the warlord (or have I already mentioned that) and found he has risen to great heights!

On the subject of obscure films that turn up on telly late at night, I saw a film called Reflections with Gabriel Byrne many years ago and have never seen it since; I can't seem to see it for sale anywhere either. For some reason I really wnat to see this film again; annoyingly I probably had it on video once.

ogm that reminds me - you recommended a book a while ago, When the Sun goes Cold (I think - it's upstairs and I'm too knackered to trek up there at the moment!). Just started reading it and finding it fascinating - thanks
