The Cafe was set in (I think!) Weston Super Mare in a cafe on the front. It was written by Ralf Little and his co-star (whose name has gone completely - how unusual!!) about the people who use the cafe and the woman who owns it. It was so lovely, gentle, well observed and poignant. It was on BBC2 (possibly) and I will let you all know if it comes back (if I remember)

I loved Mrs Brown's Boys and Rev. As for Roger and Val have just got in, I have started to suspect that the show is meant to be a bit creepy.

I haven't heard of The Cafe either. Mrs Browns' Boys is like a 'guilty pleasure' is it not? The actress in Rev who played his wife was in a harrowing film called Tyrannosaur; my film of the last year and she deserved an Oscar nomination for it, if not an Oscar [it was never going to happen].

kittylester I do so agree about Rev, but what was The Cafe? I seem to have missed that completely.

I watched the first series and found it a bit heavy going. I watched the first episode of the current series and decided it wasn't going to be any better, so I've given up on it.
Rev was brilliant - the best TV comedy for ages.

I didn't realise that Mrs Brown was like Old Mother Riley - the films were my favourite when I was little - must start watching.

Crimson. So true about Old Mother Riley and Mrs Brown.

I watched the first series because I loved Sensitive Skin; the line between comedy and poignancy has never been closer than in Mr Bliks 'dramedies'. Had forgotten about this series so must delve into iplayer. Also missed the last series of Rev. I love what I've seen of Mrs Brown [reminds me of Old Mother Riley!]. Pure pantomime for adults.

Am watching Rog & Val have just got in, don't know that I get it but live in hopes because of Dawn French and Alfred Molina such a good comedienne and actor. However, for laughs I love Mrs Brown's Boys. Usually don't like some of the language but doesn't worry me in this series. In fact have bought DVD of the first series because I missed that one. Such great characters and some of them are genuine relatives of 'Mrs Brown'. Looking forward to next series if there is one. Still laughing. smile

kittylester - is it not Mrs Brown's Boys you mean? It's so funny - and always has a wee poignant bit the end! grin

I watched several of the first series but I found them slightly depressing and strange. Not seen this new one yet. Dawn is usually so funny but I can't quite get my head round her in this.

I loved Rev kitty, haven't watched this, will give it a go, I do like Alfred Molina. I quite like wierd.

I heard such good things about this and was determined not to miss the boat this time round as I missed the first two series of Gavin and Stacey on BBC2. I watched the first two and gave up!

Other 'comedies' that I have enjoyed recently include the brilliant 'Rev' and the very gentle and poignant 'The Cafe' and, of course, 'Miranda'. I feel rather embarrassed to say that I have laughed uproariously while watching 'Mrs Baker's Boys' I don't know why I am embarrassed about it but I am confused

I agree susiecb about Dawn French but I do struggle, sometimes, with some of her comedy but I can forgive her anything for 'Vicar of Dibley'. Alfred Molina should go on the heartthrob post! wink

I agree I certainly found the first series very strange but am getting this one a lot more and found some bits this week quite funny. I shall keep watching. Dawn French is always wonderful but Alfred Molina is a fine actor.

Wierd but compelling! confused

Has anyone else been watching this? I caught a glimpse of the first series, so thought I would try it, but really I am finding it quite disturbing. There is something rather creepy about it, or am I just being stuffy?confused
