I'm sure it has, Learnergran I learned to read by watching my Dad read cartoon books to me. The speech bubbles worked just like subtitles, and the best is, the child learns without realising it.

deaf and uses the subtitles for programmes like '24' and UK versions of Swedish police dramas. He also likes to rewind live TV if he misses something but often forgets to cancel the rewind. Subtitles will only work on live TV so, if the rewind is still on, he can't access the subtitles and threatens to ring Sky and complain! It is not unknown for our TV to be 5 minutes behind the rest of the world for up to a week - very confusing.
