I loved this programme and the new series starts in two weeks, only ten episodes this time instead of twenty.Sara Lund wears a new jumper, a red one, but after showing the series in Denmark in her new jumper, the fans didn't like it, so half way through she wears again her patterned one!!! Anyone not seen the first series, watch this, it is absolutely brilliant.
Actually enjoyed the first two episodes ...but a bit concerned it is going down the political route again ...but perhaps that's what is important to Danish audiences
Prefer the red jumper to the original ...but not sure I understand how to create the actual 'pattern'
Just google The Guardian blog; The Killing, then click on 'replies'..411 so far. I missed this when I saw the first series. I'm not sure if I'll understand the political stuff; liked the way the first one was a 'whodunnit' and let the political bit wash over me.
After a few episodes the old white jumper with a pattern returns. I enjoyed it, Sara Lund is the best detective ever, hardly speaks, but is thoughtful and intelligent. Her home life is still in tatters, even bought her son for his birthday a hoodie which didn't fit properly. I gather this series is much 'darker' and puts Sara into dangerous situations. What is interesting, the writer of the series, writes each episode as it practically happens. The cast have no idea what to expect from one week to the other.
I have enjoyed the first 2 episodes and am interested by the relationship between the new politician and his secretary and civil servant (?)/adviser as well as the crimes so far.
janthea I almost missed out on the first series for the same reason. I watched the first episode on iPlayer and wasn't taken by it at all; fortunately I was at a loose end some weeks later and decided I would give it a go again and ended up completely hooked. My husband almost never watches anything on iPlayer (we have no TV), but I insisted he watched the repeats of series one and he too became completely engrossed in the storyline, even staying up really late to watch some of the episodes. Series two will be the first series of programmes that my husband and I have actually planned to watch together.
janthea; it's a bit like one of those books [eg Captain Corellis Mandolin] where you get a series of chapters about different people and then, as the book progresses the characters become intertwined, getting denser and more complicated, all the while drawing you in. Jacey, if it wasn't for my damned mouse problem I'd be with you...thank goodness I didn't discover it before the 20 part series!
Very hooked on The Killing. Watched series one thanks to a friend who told us we should! Now we looked forward to progressing with Sarah Lund and her red jumper. Incidentally we have also been advised (same friend) to watch French "Spiral" so am requesting Series 1 & 2 for Christmas. comments please? If bad weather in the future then there will be time to watch......
More violent than The Killing and less subtle. Watched it after The Killing had ended to fill the 'Saturday night with subtitles' gap. The lead actress is of the same mould as Sarah Lund, but the series [imo] is not of the same standard as the Killing and Wallander. Having said that, I wouldn't want to put you off getting it; I watched the [I think] third series, and wished I'd seen earlier ones. Something I do need to see is The Wire, my daughter says it's the best thing she's ever seen on the telly but it's a case of 'so much to do, so little time'.
I really like 'Spiral', I have seen all the series. The repeat recently was Series 1. Yes it is a bit violent. Perhaps I am just addicted to world television/films, especially anything French. Now 'The Wire' that is my absolute favourite, fantastic. I cannot praise it enough. I was given the first series as a present and went out and bought the rest. I ended up watching it during the afternoon, which is something I never do. When it finally finished I was acutely distressed!!! I am seriously thinking of watching it all again.
I loved The Killing and am already into Killing2. Also loved Spiral and am presently watching Braquo. Have watched all the Wallenders with at least three different actors in the title role. Can't vouch for this bit of gossip but someone told me that when doing the subtitles for Killing2 a lot of f...s were left out as it was considered there were too many!!
According to Insults.net 'fanden'; however there seem to be a few variations and different words. Will we all be glued to tonight's episode listening out for 'fanden'..and does anyone realise how NAUGHTY we can be on Gransnet....
My husband is constantly telling me that the translations are different from what's actually being said. For example whenever you see blaspheming subtitled what is actually said is about the devil. Even the title is not The Killing, but The Crime. (I think that's what my husband said.)
All is well - Lund is wearing the snowflake sweater again I was amused to see a "strong language" warning when I watched it on iPlayer last Sunday - a bit pointless considering the whole thing is in foreign!
yes ...the sweater ...it was the dark grey one ...had forgotten there were two versions of it (as an earlier GN had said) ...but actually prefer the red one ...may try knitting that one when my skills improve
Anyone else reckon she's going to get another partner killed?
And ...can anyone one remember how Brix became head of the police in the first series? ...wasn't there something sinister about it?
I can't remember when he turned up on the first series, near the end I think. Didn't she have another 'boss'. I am confident that Sara won't let her new nice partner get killed, 'fanden' if she does!!! I bet that word means something completely different.
