Win:win, Esspee! I can understand parents being reluctant to accept money from their children, we all have our pride, but as you show, it’s a mutual benefit.

When it gets to the stage I can’t travel SueDonim I intend to subsidise my grandchildren coming to me as my husband did with my parents.
My family is proud working class and refused help. My husband was very smart and asked if he could pay for his mother-in-law as we needed her help. (to persuade them to accept the money although that was never mentioned) This resulted in them being able to spend each winter in the Caribbean and enriched their (and our) lives immeasurably.

Thanks for the info Esspee. We hope to visit our US-based son & family again at some point, though probably not until 2023. Travel ins at £5000 would mean it’s probably cheaper for them to come to us. I love our trips to the US and would be very sad not to go again.

I know many folk who appear much fitter and more active than me and am surprised when they reveal a major health problem in the past, that was ‘sorted’ at the time and needs no further attention bar a few pills.
Pre-Covid and a smidge under 70 - I loved my trips to New York, but now (70 this year) wonder if I’ll ever see The Big Apple again.

No malice intended, I just thought it was funny Esspee - the pre-existing conditions and problems getting insurance - then the 'healthy' comment. I was also laughing at the 'post -Covid' - when exactly will that be do you think?

I too thought that was a nasty comment Hetty58 as Esspee had explained they’d had years and years with no problems and only minimal medications needed nowadays.

I’ve been looking at the cost of European cover for me but cannot fine a company willing to give me a quote! I have tried Payingtoomuch as well as comparison sites and direct contact to about 20 companies.

As soon as I admit that I had a TIA earlier this year ( not sure exactly when we only diagnosed following an eye test) and am attending both the eye hospital and checkups at the stroke clinic, they refuse a quote. I also have high blood pressure and also slightly high cholesterol so apart from bp medication, I am now on statins and blood thinners. Oh, I also take strong pain killers for oesteoarthritis!

I guess I am just a ticking time bomb! But when I booked the holiday in 2019 ( postponed twice now) my bp was under control with just two medications and I only had to pay a small extra premium.

I’m beginning to wonder if I will ever be able to go abroad again - my grandchildren live in the US so I was hoping to go there next year as well.

Thanks for the advice. I've been shopping around for European cover for the two of us and I too have found it very expensive, plus some companies that quoted previously, now decline to quote despite us being healthy. It appears that my husband turning 70 is the problem. I'll definitely use "payingtoomuch"when I start my next search.
