Smart watch’s which is best

I’m in the same position so will be very interested in any opinions. I believe the Apple Watch 5 is meant to be great for this purpose, would love to hear from anyone who owns one.

Nearly73 and need a watch that I can phone with. Take dogs yomping over hills and downs on Salisbury plains, sometimes forget my Samsung phone(senior moment). Just want to message or talk and count steps etc. Any ideas on bst/easiest to use.
