Do the colours you wear influence your mood or does your mood influence the colours you choose to wear each day?

I felt a bit low yesterday, a bit fragile and sensitive. As I put the pastel pink and blue sweatshirt I had been wearing in the wash I wondered if there’s a link?
So today I looked out a bright navy and white half-zip sweat trimmed with a flash of scarlet over a white t shirt and red beads, dark indigo jeans and red trainers.
Ready to up and at ‘em!

I think you may be right or, another thought, does your mood dictate your choices?

Regardless, where is your navy top from please? grin

Woolovers ( other brands are available!)

If you’re ’ready to up and at ‘em’ I don’t think I’ll comment…..

Why? Or why not?

My mood is definitely influenced by what I wear, and also whether I’ve made an effort to look my best. I’m a lot more positive if my hair is done, make up is on, and I’m wearing a brighter colour. The other big mood lifter is shoes, that Paolo Nutini song was spot on.

I am attracted to bright colour, not garish, Yesterday I was wearing a deep raspberry coloured sweater, to day my sweater is burnt oranga, I do not think they have any affect on my mood. I do not think about clothes in the morning. I have clothes hung up as outfits in my wardrobe and just take the one at the front and one I wore yesterday goes tonthe back. Just the thought of having to think about clothes first thing in the morning gives me the shivers.

Oh. I'm wearing a cream cotton jumper.

Am I in a neutral mood?
Never mind, I have a very colourful scarf to jazz it up!

Wyllow3 Wed 20-May-26 11:25:32

Whoops, haven't got dressed yet.

Yes, my mood absolutely is linked to what I wear.

Rarely, to create a deliberate impression. Red yesterday, need to be bold.

but pink if I want to signify a sort of openness?

Hanging around at home - big comfy jumpers in cream, pink, soft blue with easy wear trousers or in summer a couple of skirts elastic waist charity shop.

You're right abut the scarf, Allira - can be rapidly grabbed and change "the look"

I never really thought about it I suppose. I like bright colours but I also like black. I like a red cardigan with a black t shirt. Mostly I wear blue jeans unless we are going out for a meal or something. That’s one thing I like about Temu- you can buy cheap colourful clothing for almost nothing and send them to the op shop if you don’t like them without feeling guilty.

I am often at home, have never thought that colour affects me. When indoors I always wear old but comfortable clothes but if
I were going out or someone was due to visit, i would change. My old clothes really are old.

My WI had a colour analyst as our speaker this month. She was excellent and gave many examples on how colours can influence feelings and actions. eg. Many football teams wear a red strip because it gives the wearer confidence and sends that message to those around them. Arsenal have just been crowned Premier League Champions and they wear red.

Old clothes can be bright or low key too, cant they. Red to cheer, pale as you sort of want a nice quiet day in...

It’s an interesting question isn’t it? I really don’t know tbh am wearing black jeans and a powder blue jumper and feel much as I always do which is cheerful unless something bad happens.

I had a grey outfit once and it definitely affected my mood downwards so I stopped wearing it.

SueDonim Wed 20-May-26 13:39:44

I only buy clothes that appeal to me so I guess I like wearing most of my wardrobe. I have got stricter about getting rid of those purchasing errors - you know the ones, it looked ok in the shop but when you get it home. 🙄 I don’t think I have any grey items and just one or two black pieces.

Today in I’m the posher kind of navy joggers, with a side-stripe, and an aqua & white narrow stripe t-shirt.

It's not working quite so well for Nottingham Forest at the moment. grin

Probably.
I'm child-minding DGS today, so I put on something cheerful, and amusing.
My bottom is blue jeans.
I'm busy when looking after him. 🐝 🐝 🐝

I can't abide black, it drowns me and makes me depressed. Navy is OK though.

Allira Wed 20-May-26 14:20:53

I'm ok with black if it's cheered up with something but grey - absolutely not. Not pale pink either.

I have never liked bright colours so don't wear red, yellow or orange. I prefer grey/silver as a base colour to black. In the Winter maroon/raspberry colours work for me and in the Summer blue, khaki and olive green. Big patterns are a no no for me as I am under 5 foot tall and they just do not look good on me.
