Has anyone had their eyebrows tattooed , mine are very sparse ,I have them dyed every couple of months but when they fade I am left with very sparse unruly brows. So am thinking of a permanent solution , how long will it last , what’s the upkeep?

I’ve seen some that just look awful. Wrong colour and odd shape! I think you’d have to do a lot of research on which salon/aesthetist to trust. I dye mine at home because I couldn’t afford salon prices and trust no one! 😝

My eyebrows started disappearing in my late 50s. Nothing to do with my thyroid - I'm just blonde. So I had mine done seven years ago for my 60th birthday...I didn't bother again. For 2 weeks I looked like Groucho Marx so if you plan to do this don't do it too close to a big event. After that they "settled down" and I was pretty pleased for a while but couldn't face going back every year. But having no eyebrows is incredibly ageing. So I just have to remember to have an eyebrow pencil always at hand. Once upon a time I'd have said mascara was the most important thing in my handbag, now it's the eyebrow pencil and no mistake.

Yes, I got mine done about 10 years ago when in my 50s. It was the best thing I ever did. I’ve had them topped up once but, imo, they look great and totally frame my face. They fade so slowly I doubt I’ll ever need them done again. All I have to to now is pluck out the odd grey!

I had mine micro bladed a year ago. It was $750 for the initial visit with a free follow up in 3 months. The annual upkeep visit is $250. I’m quite happy with the results.

I’ve used RapidBrow from Amazon for years - it really works but if you stop, the brows return to being sparse. Costs between £25 & £30 & worth it. Don’t be ripped off by a much cheaper version. They don’t work!

Microwaved lol
I know it’s a typo but it made me laugh

There are so many different techniques, but check out microshading and ombre brows. Both use a slightly different technique and are better suited to people with thinning brows or gaps. Micro blading and powder brows both involve drawing on 'lines' which look OK if your own brows are still good but can look artificial if not. Microshading and ombre use a 'stipple' effect with a finer needle.

Not had this done yet - but doing loads of research. I met someone over Xmas (same sort of age as me, so 70-ish). Her brows looked great - light and subtle. She lives 60 miles away but I am tempted to ask her where she goes and book in with the same practitioner, even if I have to travel. I would keep looking at peole and when you spot an effect that you like, ask where they got it done. No one minds being asked if something looks good do they?

I am not sure that younger people, who do procedures on their young peers really understand how differently things work on older people. Big shout out to Silvertwigs for having the courage to show us a bad outcome - that's very brave of you. I keep thinking that we really need a directory of beauticians who are really good with older faces.

Did you mean to say you had your eyebrows microwaved? I’m just curious as I have never heard of this.

NotaGrannie Mon 26-Jan-26 14:27:12

oh yes, no regrets, all done for me. Initially it was vanity, now becoming more a necessity as eyesight/accuracy not as good as they once were. Great without makeup, great with makeup when required.

I had mine first done several years ago by someone who worked for private healthcare mainly tattooing cancer/chemo patients with eyebrows, eye liner and nipples - I knew I was in good hands. She took a long time measuring my brows minutely, following my natural brow line, drawing them then showing me how they would look - yikes.

I've had them touched up over the years, this person also does chemo/cancer face and nipples and covers scars - the tattoos do fade and how long depends on your body.

Areas numbed, you feel pressure (you are lying on bed/chair). easy aftercare.

When healed your brows will start to look as intended. I'm red /salt/pepper hair, blue eyes, pale skin and was terrified I would end up with the startled look so many people end up with. But the practitioner listened to me and kept saying they will look as you described you wanted them - My description was not dark, I want a natural taupe type shade and more definition than colour. And they are - love them. Eye liner too, only black and you can hardly see the line - but the overall look is eye definition - love them.

As my eyelashes are fair, I have them dyed regularly, when first done the combination of eye liner plus dark lashes looks great (in my opinion).

Now mid 70's and will get my tatts touched up if I feel the need again

copied from my practitioner's webpage :-

"Micro-pigmentation is a refined variation of cosmetic tattooing in which hypoallergenic, pharmaceutical grade pigments are introduced into the skin in order to create a shadow of colour that mimics the most perfectly applied make-up"

certainly NOT carcinogenic.

I have mine done and I love them. I’m 65 btw. I over plucked and they just went. But make sure you do research as there is different effects. I do t have the type that looks very ‘Liney’ more shaded and subtle

I had my eyebrows tattooed some years ago and was delighted with the results, although I assumed wrongly that as a tattoo they would last forever but they didn’t. By the time they needed doing again it was so much more expensive that I didn’t bother. I use an angled brow brush with dark brown solid powder which gives good results. And by the way it was very painful even though I’m a pretty tough cookie.

CariadAgain Mon 26-Jan-26 14:06:55

I've had that missing third of eyebrows for a while now - darn it! - and I never plucked my eyebrows once back along.

The thing is the eyelashes are also noticeably sparser too - and they weren't great back along - but a combination of having the rest of my eyebrows back then and putting on mascara meant "Nice eyes" was a pretty frequent compliment.

The thought crossed my mind re tattooing on the missing bit of those eyebrows - but I was in the group that didnt wear much make-up back along when I was in that agegroup and so maybe that bit less likely to do that then anyway. But - to me personally - I tend to think "Why would I put in that effort when men from mid-life onwards seem to think they can get a woman that is higher looks level than them anyway? Cheek of it - as that means women 'trading down' - so that they can "trade up". So that being the case and I basically don't do pain if I can help it and certainly have never had a tattoo (but have been told they are very painful to do) = and I tend to think "What's the point?" and it's not something I'd consider anyway.

The only painful procedure I've ever gone in for is cosmetic blemish removal and I've had a noticeable number of them frozen off and can see a few more have popped up and so chances are I'll get them done too. But, apart from that "If it equals pain = it ain't for me".

Having mine done this Thursday has full consultation last week. Will take two sessions , two weeks apart then once a year touch up. All I would say is use a reputable consultant, preferably one who has been recommended to you.

Silvertwigs Mon 26-Jan-26 14:03:43

😂😂

Silvertwigs Mon 26-Jan-26 14:01:54

Lilypops Please do your research, I had a disastrous experience. My daughter and her friends had been very happy with the most beautiful salon and very professional looking staff. I paid £300 but cried my eyes out when I saw the end results, they were nothing like the picture I’d given her. I ended up having them removed, they pain was unbearable. A year later they have grown back and I’m sticking to a tweelie brush and brow colour

Fflaurie Mon 26-Jan-26 13:57:48

Yes, I’ve had mine done, it gives me confidence if I have to be without make up. Depending on where you live, I would ask a local FB group for recommendations. I have mine topped up every couple of years.

Doodles202 Mon 26-Jan-26 13:57:19

I had my eyebrows tattooed about eight years ago and had them topped up about two years ago. They always look fabulous, if I say so myself! Definitely worth the investment.

Momonelios Mon 26-Jan-26 13:55:05

I lost my husband at 57 and due to stress my eyebrows went very sparse, as I think eyebrows are very important and frame the face I decided to have them tattooed….never regretted having it done, they were a bit dark for a few weeks but then they faded and looked great…years on and I’m still happy with them.

FranP Mon 26-Jan-26 13:51:32

I have the opposite problem, but my DIL does semi-permanent ones that do not require needles. She is a qualified phlebotomist and pharmacy tech as well as trained to do this.

She warns that if you want permanent, go to a registered tattooist for safety.

Like most of us, I plucked my eyebrows into oblivion back in the 70s. And they never grew back. So now I tattoo my own! Once a week. The product is on Amazon, And it's a decent deal if you don't mind that it comes from China. Plus when you order it you get two tubes instead of one. This lasts me for months. Called Cilrofelr. And yes I spelled it right. I don't know where they come up with these weird names but I totally recommend this product.

Jonestownflood Mon 26-Jan-26 13:50:07

I have nano brows, still tattooing but don’t go blue/grey like some micro blading do. I had virtually no eyebrows and wanted a natural look which is just what I have . Should last up to two years

AlpineGranny Mon 26-Jan-26 13:49:23

Had mine microbladed the week before I started chemo and knew I would loose them. Best thing I ever did could only manage the one session (you are meant to have 2) but they lasted over 2 years. Just had them spruced up a bit now. Make sure you go to a reputable place. Really pleased with mine makes such a difference. Good luck.

Mini2020 Mon 26-Jan-26 13:46:06

Yes I’ve had mine done! Love them. Had a small top up after 18 months! Would recommend! I’m 70 and mine were sparse! Mainly due to plucking them a lot in my teens!

MadameP Mon 26-Jan-26 13:42:23

I had mine done some years ago and they are due to be done again. I highly recommend. It’s quite painful but modern techniques give a very natural result and it’s lovely to be able to forget about them.

Pix5 Mon 26-Jan-26 13:41:54

I have, they last about 18 months before needing a touch up. I have no eyebrows due to an autoimmune disease. I’m so pleased with them.
