Just joined the forum and it looks great. I'm a mess and I need help!! My hair especially is driving me mad and I can't seem to do anything with it. Very short pixie cut, hairdresser twice put pale blond on twice and both times it washed out in 2 weeks and left me with very dead bone-white straw. It isn't glossy or smooth or anything at all, it's just a disaster and I'm so fedup. Anybody tried anything that helps?

Lovely to get your positive feedback. Happy hair days ahead!
UPDATE ladies, thank to your excellent help, my hair is already much better. Sulphate free shampoo, argan oil keratin conditioner, and a gorgeous big bristle brush have changed the look completely. Smoother and neater by far. Thank you all so much!!

I used Plantur which helped a little.
I buy Noukrin when I can afford to help with thinning.
Aussie Miracle smooths it down, and is good for the sun damage
But strangely, when I ran out, I used up some head and shoulders that my daughter had left in the cupboard when she moved out - brilliant!
But the best help is hair dye -seems like your hairdresser just added a yellowing colour rinse. I am "mouse" not blonde, but she does put a warm "dark blonde" through and then highlights and the condition of my hair improves no end (no dye for 2.5 years through COVID, determined to go grey gracefully, I went screaming back for colour because of the condition of my natural hair.
My natural hair was lovely really, silvery, but I wanted a warmer blonder look. It's a whole different ball game with old lady hair!!!

I would give the colouring a miss for a while. All colouring dries up hair and if it’s dry during the summer especially, you’ll really notice it. Why not wash it twice a week say, and use some nice shampoo and conditioner for dry hair, then heat protection before drying it, followed by a touch of a glossy finish, like argan oil…. If you want to stay with the hairdresser, discuss it with her. Maybe once it’s in better condition, it’ll take a colour more readily. Personally I gave up colouring my hair a couple of years ago…it’s quite long…all shades of silver, grey and white …and I’m complimented on it. I think condition is all.
That's what I'm trying now, fingers crossed. The daft thing is that my own natural hair ws lovely and silvery but I wanted a warmer golder colour. Wish I had left it be!

I have white hair in pixie style which is sooo easy I have it feathery at ears back of hair (bottom) and a feathery fringe . So that the style is not too severe Every so often it goes fluffy and looks like cotton wool on top. I then use a Mask for hair every 2 weeks and that helps a lot. I also use a gloss for hair small bottle just a drop rubbed into fingers and thru hair gives a nice shine. Be v careful with purple stuff I use now and then use tiny drop quickly thru hair and well rinsed sometimes in certain light it looks a bit purple and I hate it and don’t use for months. I like the spiky wet look so use a clay product rubbed into fingers and run thru hair to give it texture but that might be a look too far for yourself . I also go to a male barbers young lady cuts it beautifully and much cheaper than a hairdresser. PS. I am very feminine and female in case crop took is misleading…
I've got the same hair in the same cut :
I used to have a lady who came to the house to cut it, and she was a barber. They must be better with short hair.

I’d really recommend the conditioner K18. Since your hair is short just one or two squeezes after shampooing and towel dry. Leave in. It’s magical. Recommended by India Knight. Even my hubby noticed the difference. It lasts ages. Shiny, manageable hair.

Thank you both. J52 My daughter mentioned Argan oil but I didn't pay attention
Foxtail I was using Olaplex purple but think maybe too much or too often, as it went quite a dull colour, so I didn't go back to it since the hairdresser did it. I could use it once a week or something like that though.
Thanks ladies xx
I use Olaplex purple shampoo - it can be quite drying, so I don’t use it every wash. I don’t use conditioner because I find it makes my hair limp. But I am a big fan of Olaplex No3 Bond Builder. This is a very different product to the shampoo, as it strengthens the hair shaft from within. It’s a pre-shampoo treatment - you have to damp your hair, spread a generous amount through your hair and leave for min 10 minutes. I use it every 4/5 shampoos. My naturally grey hair looks reasonably shiny and is very manageable. My hairdresser attributes the condition to my regular use of this Olaplex product. It’s expensive, but I think it’s worth it - better value if you buy the larger sizes. It’s usually on special offer somewhere.
My thick, coarse dark hair began greying in my 30s. Coloured it for years. Post 50, the condition became awful, making the colour a horrid matt. Let it go grey several years ago and the texture and appearance are so much better. Give it a try! Especially with a pixie cut, won’t take long to grow out.
Oh and welcome to Gransnet!

I have read that for those with light blonde or white hair you can use a coloured glaze to change colour and add shine.
Superdrug sells coloured hair glazes. I've heard they're good.

I follow the blow dry professor on you tube and since using his routine to shampoo x2 conditioner and then apply a leave in conditioner my hair is much healthier it has shine and the colour lasts longer

Regular use of the oils and elasticizer should really help. If you feel you need something more then try K18, a bond repair product which is used occasionally. It's expensive but with a pixie cut you would only need a tiny amount.
You could try Philip Kingsley’s elastisiser. I love it
Good morning all. I have thick coarse hair and struggle to keep it in good condition. I've tried using coconut oil and olive oil leaving it on for 30 mins or overnight to help the condition but find I have to keep washing it to get all of the oil out which defeats the object as it ends up being dryer than before. Any advice would be appreciated. Have a lovely day everyone.
I use a product named Mythic Oil, it is expensive but you only need one drop rubbed into the palm of your hands and then scrunched through freshly washed, still damp hair. Then comb through and style as usual.
This excessively hot weather would normally dry out the ends of my hair but this oil keeps it looking healthy but not greasy.
What great help everybody - thank you!! I've bought argan oil shampoo and argan oil/keratin conditioner, plus a bristle brush. See what happens now..

letmein - over the last 18 months my health has deteriorated a great deal .
I don't sleep well and my diet can be appalling .
As a result my nails are so fragile .
As we get older we really need to concentrate on a healthy diet and exercise programme .
I have many friends, who are younger than me and I'm shocked at the deterioration in their health.
Take great care of yourself .
This is very true esmay, I'm the same. Plus you get used to doing things a certain way all your life, but we need to change to adapt.
