Thinking of 'getting my colours done'.

Has anyone done it? Recommendations please.

In the 90s I won in a raffle a 1-1 with a CMB rep. After a lot of waffle and scarves being draped around shoulders I was advised to wear Autumn/winter shades (which I knew anyway.) Personally I was just pleased I hadn't wasted money on a consultation.

I’ve heard of it, but can’t justify the £100+ initial outlay and then being ‘expected’ to change my wardrobe.

Wish I could find one for that sort of price. Those I’ve looked up seem to start at more than twice that. I heard this topic discussed on Womans Hour last week, so it’s clearly still a thing. The consultant who was interviewed thought between £100 to £150 would be reasonable though. Looks like I need to do further research.

And all the colours go together or at least complement each other.

The make up company is great - really helpful.

And, as NanKate, said, Kettlewell colours work to the same system.

Had mine done. Brilliant. Also have a wallet with swatches. Got loads of complements wearing "my" colours. Also had my style preference done. That was excellent. Now whatever I buy feels comfy and appropriate.

I have never heard of this 🤷‍♀️

Yes I had it done decades ago I was a autumn

Blinko Mon 10-Apr-23 12:23:49

Looks like I’m a ‘Soft Summer’.. but I probably answered what I’d normally choose, not necessarily what suits me.

henetha Mon 10-Apr-23 10:21:13

That's a thought . I'll do it again in a minute.

I’ve just had a look, and there are far fewer free online ones than there have been.
Re hair, I’d put in what my original natural hair colour was

Georgesgran Mon 10-Apr-23 10:18:25

The face to face ones are probably better, as we sometimes don’t see ourselves as others see us?
It’s decades ago, but as well as colours - some of which I’d never worn but do now - cobalt blue, emerald green and purple, my ‘consultation’ also included make up and I was recommended never to try and keep my natural hair colour. I sometimes ignored that, but in the end she was right and I embraced the grey, albeit with a lilac undertone (from a spray).

henetha Mon 10-Apr-23 10:16:47

I just did the first one you mentioned and apparently I am warm spring. Yippee! Sounds nice at least. smile
Oh, just read again, that one is rubbish! Never mind, it was a bit of fun. They don't seem to cater for ancient grey haired
gals, so I had to cheat a bit anyway.

Actually, that one’s rubbish.
Don’t bother!

henetha Mon 10-Apr-23 10:10:08

Thank you FC. That's a thought, - what if we do not like the colours suggested? grin

Henetha there are lots of online quizzes to get the general drift.
I did another one last night, and it said that I was a ‘soft’ Autumn.
I’m not so sure though, as the paler colours that it suggested would look dreadful on me

henetha Mon 10-Apr-23 09:59:20

I've never heard of this either, and am intrigued.

Georgesgran Sun 09-Apr-23 23:53:43

It was very popular Shina
Perhaps you are younger - it was more common in the 80’s and 90’s.

Bixiboo Sun 09-Apr-23 23:34:09

I had mine done about 25 years ago with House of Colour then about 15 years ago with Colour me Beautiful. They were quite similar, but the wallet with the swatches contained a lot more from Colour me Beautiful. Both consultants also gave make up advice which was very useful. I’ve always ordered make up online from House of Colour as once you know your season you know whatever colours you order they will always suit you.

.

Georgesgran Sun 09-Apr-23 23:14:53

I’m a Winter too according to Colour Me Beautiful. Done 30+ years ago, but I still follow the basics of what colours I was recommended to wear. Never yellow or peach, which is just as well, as I don’t like either.
I seem to remember that several of us were invited to another’s house for the ‘Consultation’. I wonder if the hostess got a discount, a bit like the old Tupperware parties.

NanKate Sun 09-Apr-23 21:40:02

I’m Winter via Colour Me Beautuful and am so pleased that I was assessed years ago. Like Kitty I have stopped wearing black. Also Kitty suggested I shopped online at Kettlewell. All their clothes are lovely colours, check it out.

Shinamae Sun 09-Apr-23 20:59:02

I have never heard of this 🤷‍♀️

Juliet27 Sun 09-Apr-23 20:53:29

Had mine done several years ago. I’m winter so bright vibrant colours which do seem to suit but as I’m not a very bright vibrant person I don’t tend to wear them often! I’m quite happy with black and grey too.

Blinko Sun 09-Apr-23 20:45:42

Thank you all. I’m motivated to research a consultant near me. Looking forward to it!
