Long line tunic

Has anyone got recommendations for where to shop for a tunic to wear with leggings please.

Philippa111 Wed 11-May-22 14:38:52

Yes, long tunic to knee length or a dress.. and leggings. M&S do a basic black and blue. I wear longer things as cellulite on the thighs can show through leggings!! And that is not a good look... I also find things at Seasalt. They often have a good sale in store and online and they have an outlet store on Ebay.. I've had a couple of good bargains there.

This will properly cause a few raised eyebrows but I seriously wonder how so many women want to wear leggings when really they should not. A straight cut pair of trousers looks so much better on many women., especially as you get older.

Comfort.

And personal choice.

I bought some beautiful Italian long line tunics on ebay...Average price 15/20pds...Also sell them on Etsy, would only do for the summer months

I did not mean formal trousers rather I should have said straight leg trousers (cotton or linen) or jeans and I totally agree that a tunic length is more flattering. If you are short like me a longer length blouse often works better as some of the longer tunics are too long. I guess I am in shock from what I saw yesterday, having to go into the town centre to the Council Offices for the first time in many months I saw some sights that I would rather not have. I really could not believe how some women were dressed, not just casual but scruffy, unkempt, and in a couple of cases verging on X-rated.

I agree with you on that point, I’ve noticed too that there do seem to be a lot of women around in town at the moment who look like they have given up caring, which is probably the impact of the pandemic, clothes can be flattering whatever size you are - the worst look of all is anything that’s two sizes to small for you.

Yes definitely try Seasalt, also White Stuff and Apricot, both have nice tunics at quite reasonable prices

I agree with Maybee70 the fact that leggings stretch with you means the lbs can creep on unchecked if you’re not careful but they’re so comfy and easy to wash & dry. I have several pairs in black & navy & wear with tunics and dresses.

I have a drawer full of them ranging in size. They also var in size if bought on the internet. I bought some Love leggings in what I thought was my size and can’t get into them!

That would be the case if they were the latest fashion but young people I know still wear jeans. It’s mainly us older ladies that have embraced the wearing of oh so comfortable leggings. And I also feel more comfortable wearing Tena lady with leggings blush

Landsend also do good tunics www.landsend.co.uk

I also now think leggings aren't a good look, although used to wear them years ago with a tunic. I much prefer jeans & chinos in various colours. A recent buy are these trousers - really comfortable and go well with tunic or shorter top.

Tunics can be very clingy. I go for well cut jeans, chinos or linen trousers and a longer line shirt.

I wear a lot of Adini and Skyla tops/tunics, but only buy them when a sale is on grin

(and) what's the difference between a 'long line tunic' and a dress?

I would say a long line tunic sits mid thigh, where as a dress is knee length of longer.

Just looked at the Adini website, some lovely stuff!

Not sure I agree re tunics being clingy - it depends on the make, the material, the sizing, etc. In fact, the linen ones are often oversized.

Sahara have beautiful tunics they are pricey so hold out for the sale.

As do Masai !
Another make is something like 100 stars.

Tunics aren’t clingy. I love long line clothes over either leggings or cut offs for summer. Think of the lovely outfits Judi dench wore in Best exotic marigold

Like Philippa111 I have bought Seasalt from eBay (plus in store and online). I’ve been more than happy with the Lily and Me items I’ve found in T K Maxx.

Rosalyn69 Wed 11-May-22 21:08:54

Kin from John Lewis for tunics or Masai.

I bought a lovely tunic from Roman with a matching scarf. Have had compliments about it. ?

SuzieHi Wed 11-May-22 22:06:03

Have a look in the charity shops at dresses- if they are a good fit it’s easy to shorten them to a perfect tunic length.
I’ve even made a matching scarf with the fabric I’ve cut off
Can use iron on hem tape if you don’t sew!

If you live in a town with a significant Pakistani or Bangladeshi community have a look in shops selling shalwar (trousers) khameez (tunic) combinations. You can of course order online too. A khameez is a wonderfully comfortable long tunic with slits at the side that could easily be worn with leggings. The range of colours and fabrics available in a traditional Asian outfitters is staggering.

Next currently have a long tunic / short dress. Like a t-shirt but longer with a little bit of a shape. £10 so a bargain.

My daughters Skirt & Tights after decorating my flat for me , now I don't know about the skirt ,maybe it can be rescued saved from the bin ..? but those Thick Black Tights are destined for the trash I would say ..what do you think ? I could recycle them perhaps ..? Make them into something useful ..what about the skirt ..its a stretchy Bengaline fabric , she has left them here for me to wash which I now have but the Tights are still stained .I can not really give them to a charity shop can I..

I have just come across a superb company called Nomads who sell ethical and Fair Trade clothing (their philosophy makes a really interesting read)
I found them so helpful , caring and shall be going there again.By the way they have free uk returns on any order. It's worth looking at the website, and they have some fantastic bargains in the clearance.
