For years I have been hoping that I'd lose enough weight to wear my favourite dress. I bought it originally for my 70th birthday. Now past 80, I tried it on today and it fits perfectly. However, it does have rather a low neckline. Though I say it myself, I still have a good, unwrinkled cleavage, but at my age, will I look odd if I wear it? Or should I just put the dress on Ebay and buy one more befitting my age?
Your boobs your dress, if you want to put them out there nobody’s business but yours. Anybody doesn’t like them they can look the other way. Personally I am so tired of being told “ oh you cant do that you are too old” you go for it girl
How lucky are you to have such a nice cleavage? I'd wear it anyway and just bear in mind that we can usually see more of our cleavage than others can! You used to be able to get "modesty tops" that tuck into the front of a dress from online companies such as Damart etc so that might be an idea. PS, what's your secret in having no wrinkles? My cleavage looks a bit like an unmade bed each morning despite whatever lotion or potion I use!
Sally12 - what a useful site. Thank you. I like the idea of a statement necklace annodomini to match your lovely dress. I'm sure, after the 18 months we've had, you deserve to allow yourself to wear whatever you like.
I find a V necked top with a bit of cleavage is very flattering for lots of older women. I like to wear a statement necklace with mine. I avoid round necks as they can shorten the look of the neck except when wearing a pretty scarf. Enjoy wearing your dress if you feel good and have a smile on your face I'm sure you'll look good!
Oh please do wear it. I would love to be able to do that but with a mastectomy out of the question. So you wear it and enjoy it. My legs are still good though and I do wear shorter skirts sometimes to make up for lack up top.
Go for it Anno and enjoy wearing your favourite dress! My dear Mum was 85 when we were shopping for her. She saw a purple long sleeved dress and exclaimed”Oh no, that is far too old for me!”
Anno, if you're feeling a little less than confident in your lovely dress, could you close the neckline a little bit with a pretty brooch or hidden pin?
Don't wear the dress if you are going to feel self conscious all evening - and I fear this is the case because you had to come on here and ask. If I have got this wrong then wear it with pride
Take your granddaughters advice Anno and I bet they say you look good. To be fair, I don’t think I have ever noticed a cleavage and thought the person looked to old to show it. If you look good, wear it!
Yesterday, I commented on another thread that Dawn French knows how to dress, in that she always makes sure that her beautiful face and perfect hair draw the eye. Likewise, Ms Mirren is fully aware of her own best features!
