Ideas for livening up white hair

My sister used the spray on root cover to blend the white in. I think it looks rather streaked. Better than the too obvious white roots.

I attend a weekly Zoom session with my choir of around 50 members. It’s amusing to see that so many of us who were ‘blonde’ in March now have white hair!
It might suit you more than you think Sue! I love mine.

I had caramel roots with blonde highlights before the first lockdown, and by the time I got to the hairdressers in September, was almost completely blonde (summer sun!). After a much-needed cut I was a light grey, which didn't look too different from before. Decided I wouldn't have my roots done again, but needed something different. So my hairdresser has started putting caramel lowlights in, which seems to be ok.

Why not try those wash in wash out sachets, just to take the white shine off?

I would say a funky cut and let the colour take care of itself.
Last lockdown we saw too many in their “true colours” at the roots along with the dyed ends - not a good look
Sadly , no chance of the cut either as it may be Easter before we see a hairdresser again.

I'd like to recommend a home dye of silver grey but I'd better not.

I saw a very interesting look at the hairdressers last time I was in which I would never have thought of. This elegant white haired lady of a certain age had a lovely smooth bob but she had various bright streaks of colour in it. The hairdresser lifted quite a thick layer first and then put bright green, bright pink, blue, purple etc in just a few splodges! When it was finished you just got a really interesting glimpse of colour when she moved her hair, it was gorgeous, most striking!

I felt very old and staid because I’d just had blonde colour streaks put in as I couldn’t bear the look of my hair as it had grown and was boring white - I looked like a witch! I’d decided to have colour put in a few times a year so I was blonde rather than grey. My hairdresser assured me I could try the colours if I wanted but I’d have to let it all go white again first I suppose. You may think it sounds awful but it was really attractive and more youthful.

That sounds gorgeous lucky legs, although I would like to see it on someone first before asking for it.

My light brown “colour” has now almost completely grown out since the first lockdown (been coloured by hairdresser for several years) and is now a dark grey. I didn’t know how grey it was until 10 months of not colouring it, but now it’s all revealed. I quite like it and may keep it grey, but if it was white rather than grey, I may have been tempted to colour it myself, if i’d got the courage. I think white hair suits some people, and it can look beautiful, but I don’t think it would suit me.

After my last terrifying attempt to dye my white hair silver, I decided today to have another go but, this time, I've bought the shampoo in/shampoo out version. I'm still apprehensive after what happened last time....

I wear a lot of blue turquoise bright pink so I quite fancy the streaks of colour thing. But may not be brave enough
But as Mawbe says get a good modern cut like very short and spiky or blunt bob and then see how you feel.

A decent cut and you should be able to carry off anything, probably a if you want a bit of lip pay too.

I am wondering about some colour work on my hair when i next visit the hairdresser. Lots of ladies hereabouts have bright pink or sky blue colours. Not keen on this look as, to me, it screams "I am not growing older"!

I’ve been looking up about the shots of colour thing I talked about above. It’s apparently called peekaboo colours. I’m thinking I might get a few subtly placed. Some of the pictures on Pinterest are a bit gaudy and obvious but the lady I saw was very subtle and tasteful. You couldn’t really see them unless she moved her hair about. Ooh, I feel quite excited about it!

I just want to add that it wouldn’t matter about growing out as they aren’t put anywhere near your roots, they are halfway down your head. The lady I saw had come back to have more autumnal colours put in but she didn’t want just brown or yellow. My hair was finished so I never got to see her final look, infuriating!

These are just some ideas I’ve quickly found. I liked the lady with pure white hair with different colours though. A really sharp shot of turquoise, green, blue, pink.
