Regaine for hair loss

Maybee70 you can buy both online, also a chaper version, or maybe just another manufacturer,i think it's called Kirkland,or something similiar,i saw a video by a Dr saying there are cheaper versions of minoxidil,,
Amazon sell it i think,i am going to check it out myself
You can by Regaine and Minoxidil,in 5% for men, and 2% for women
I was talking to a lady on another forum who started on the 5% and she said she had a lot of hair growth, then went to the 2% and still using it,and hair still growing,
Her daughter also has used it sice being young,as she lost her hair because of illness i think

Rose can i ask how long it took for you see any results,?
Also roughly what age were you? [you dont have to say if you dont want to] when you started using it,as i know they recommend not over 65, don't know why

It’s because it lowers your blood pressure. But the amount in topical application is minimal and my doctor was happy for me to use it.

I already have blood pressure normal to low, it varies
Have you had any side effects yourself?
I'm a bit scared to use it, but i have also looked at the proaccelerant mentioned earlier, but it is very expensive, more than the regaine i think, but i am guessing it has minoxidil in it, as stated before,i was told that only minoxidil will regrow hair

No side effects. And I have really sensitive skin but haven’t had any skin irritation. I’ve got some regaine mousse which I don’t really like, but think it would probably work better on alopecia. It’s stronger than the Boots own brand and applied once a day. I thought it was originally a treatment for high blood pressure so would be used to lower it.

Maybee didn't know Boots had their own brand, have you any idea what that is called?

The Boots own brand is called Hair Loss Treatment: regular strength minoxidil. However, I can’t see it on their website. DH has gone to Boots to buy me some more so I’ll find out later if there’s a supply problem. It is very liquid and has to be applied twice a day whereas the Regaine mousse is obviously thicker and is only applied once a day. I prefer the liquid as it’s only my crown that’s thinning and the liquid goes straight to my scalp. If I wanted to target a specific area I would use the mousse. I think both of them seem to thicken the hair when applied which gives an impression that they’re working! No idea what the hair on my crown would be like if I hadn’t used it for years but scared to stop now (although I don’t tend to apply it all the time these days. One of the best things I found for improving my hair was rinsing with very cold water after shampooing but I preferred doing that after a sauna which I obviously can’t have now.

I had no idea Boots had their own brand until you mentioned it, and my boots don't sell it as i have looked on their section for minoxidil, which was there but not their own
I would prefer the liquid too, as even ordinary hair mousse is awfull and sticky
At the moment i am putting steroid liquid on my scalp every night, prescribed by the derm,but i do wonder if it is making it worse as lost more from the front now
I have thought about rinsing with cold water
,as cancer patients are given a cold cap i believe to help save their hair
Is their much difference in price? between boots own and minoxidil?
There is another cheaper one called Kirkland, which i expect is just the brand

Boots didn’t have it in store so not sure what is happening: they did say it was being repackaged. I can’t say I noticed a difference: all I know is that I still have hair on my crown and I might not have had any if I wasn’t nursing it. Even though my hair is so thin I still have lots of hair in my hairbrush. To be honest, I’d stick with what you’re using now as these things take a long time to work. I do envy people with nice hair!

The reviews are good, saying they have seen new growth in 2 months
It was only £16 which is about £10 cheaper than in Boots, so worth a try i think
I have ordered the liquid, i really don't fancy using the mousse,i don't even like hair mousse, but it has to be applied twice a day,the mousse once a day
I have been using steroid liquid the Dermatologist prescibed, but i'm sure it is making it worse,as since using it,my hair has got thinner at the front
I couldn't find the Boots one anywhere

I’m getting you mixed up with someone on the other thread that had alopecia on the back of her head: that’s why I kept saying the mouse would suit you better! (should read things properly!).

As my hair is now white I've just bought some White Hot Shooshing Creme that I saw advertised on facebook. It really has made my hair look a lot thicker; downside is that it's very perfumed and was terribly over packaged, but I think it can be bought in some supermarkets.

Never heard of White hot shooshing cream, ,but the rest of my hair is quite thick anyway
It might have been me you saw on the other thread,as the back is where my hair has gone from, from the crown down,
I can't disguise the crown are which is why i am going to try the Regaine
I was told though that mine isn't alopecia, but Telogen Effluvium
I only hope it doesn't affect my blood pressure as tends to be low to normal

Idiot that I am I put the Regaine mousse into my hand instead of straight onto my scalp and it turned into a liquid so I was able to use it in the same way that I use the Boots own brand.

I have ordered the liquid, because i think i can get it onto my scalp, where the mousses might get tangled in with my hair,
My steroid lotion has a nozzle on it and i can get it right on to the scalp,or maybe the mousse has a narrow nozzle on it too?
The steroid lotion has made no difference, and i have too much loss to have the injections i'm told
Have you ever searched hairloss on GN there are quite a few examples, and some successes re hair regrowth,and what worked

I think I'm beyond help now! Just scared that, if I stop the minoxidil my hair will drop out completely.

I know,this getting old,[or got] is no fun is it, luckily not many health problems that bother me,
Although had a few panic attacks recently, no idea why,so had to go for an ECG which was fine
I think most people are having some anxiety

I have tried it for about 4 months now and nothing,#I am giving up after this bottle is finished, no difference at all,

I'm just putting this here for anyone who is suffering hair loss.
My hair had been getting thinner and thinner for about ten, fifteen years.
I was losing loads, and the growth didn't keep up. It was as if it couldn't stay in my head long enough. It was all over the floor, plug, everywhere.
Summer 2019 I decided that I was going to have extensions, not common or garden ones but the best specialist salon I could find. Even Mr C agreed with it, he never commented on my hair, but just said 'whatever makes you happy'.
Prior to this I had spent hundreds if not thousands on everything going. I'm not even going to list it. You name it, I tried it.
Anyway, in January, a blood test showed I was vitamin D deficient. I had a high loading dose and then took healthspan stuff.
Hair is now great! The best it's been in donkeys years!
My hair isn't my best feature and wouldn't win any prizes, but there is certainly a lot more of it and I don't see it all over everything like I used to.

Well done Fanny. It's great that your perseverance paid off. I too saw several doctors, had blood tests, tried lotions, potions, shampoos, Regaine, old wives' tales, vitamins. Nothing worked sadly.
I am now completely without hair. I have mentioned many times on here about this and the fact that there is no help out there. I have paid for a hair system which is great but it's not cheap.
I wouldn't wish alopecia on my worst enemy.

Yes, I think that it's not really taken that seriously.
My father's wife is really struggling, it won't be long before she has no hair.
Which hair system do you have if you don't mind me asking?

Hi Fanny. After many months of tears, hiding from cameras, not wanting to go out, ruined holidays, I found a salon/clinic here in Birmingham. They are amazing - kind and caring. I was very dubious at first. I thought I may be ripped off but I couldn't have been more wrong.
This hair system is like having your own hair. I can go out in gale force winds, wash and style my hair like anyone would. It's taken years off me!
The down sides are that I go back every 6 weeks or so so that they can condition my scalp and the system so obviously for those couple of hours I have a bald head. I turn my chair away from the mirror so I can't see myself.
My system has to be glued to my scalp which I was initially horrified by but it really is fine. It costs me about £2500 a year. I save so much a month. They do other systems without glue and treatments too, including laser for hair growth.
The owner makes systems for children with cancer and alopecia free of charge.
I won't give the name of the salon as I don't think that's allowed. I'm sure there are similar ones throughout the country.
