Advice on going grey please

Easy - stop going to the hairdresser !
And you wont be able to get out to the chemist to buy hair dye
And as you cant socialise who will see it!

MawB as I said in my post, I don't intend going to the hairdressers for a while but I can order hair dye via the internet.

If you can’t go ‘cold turkey’ I’d use a lighter blond wash, getting gradually lighter. That’s what I did until the dye made little difference.
Ash grey probably won’t show on the darker bits.

I'm in the same position - even if my hairdresser was working I wouldn't be going but with her partner in the high risk category I know she will have stopped all appointments. I bought a hair dye the other day and when it gets too bad I'll get round to trying it out. Might get my husband to do it - my dad used to colour my mum's hair! Besides I cut his - only right he should reciprocate

I'm dark haired so no help, my grey will still disappear with hair dye bought online because I can still see it and that's what matters.
You've probably got plenty of time to experiment with lighter shades until you find a shade that can fade out. Assuming of course you can still buy it online as many items have simply disappeared and no longer available. I buy a lot online due to disability and some of the most unlikely things are no longer available.

Please don’t let it put you off.

Like you I am in a dilemma as to how to deal with my hair.

I am not going out but nonetheless want to feel as good about myself as possible.

There is a company whose ads pop up now and then for tailor made hair dye. You answer some hair related questions and put a photo of your self in and it comes up with your options.
If I am find it I will send you the link.

*Rebecca58 My hair is 100% grey, but I'd been dyeing it black (my original colour) for years. I'm 60. I'd had enough of doing the roots, so bought "B4" colour stripper from Amazon, used 2 boxes as directed, and it went a bright orange! Then I put on a Casting dark blonde, but yesterday stripped it even more and have today put on a Silver Grey colour, and I think I like it. My roots won't show when they come through.

The online bespoke colour is called ESalon, I’ve just filled in the online form and ordered. ????

A friend of mine who had dyed for years decided to stop and her hair has gone a beautiful silver and she looks years younger.

Ladies, this is a great time to try/go grey.
Think no more chemicals on your hair and skin.
Think of the enviroment - how much tin foil goes in land fill just because we are so vain and all those chemicals who knows what they are doing to us all.
I had decided 18 months ago to not dye my hair after doing it from teenage years, it takes time to get used to but feels stronger and healthier, I wish I'd done it years ago.
We could all get used to not wearing so much make-up and not having our manicures at these times, our nurses can't so lets join them and make the enviroment a better place for our grandchildren.
We will still have a need for hairdressers so not putting them out of business.

I stopped having mine coloured last August. Growing out steadily, just feel this is the ideal time to ‘let it go’!

Seriously this is an obvious time to do it. No social events for the foreseeable. I stopped colouring mine around age 60 and it’s a pretty nice silver now. It was just costing a fortune keeping the colour going. Why other putting anything else on it? Just keep it well conditioned and if you’re nifty with the scissors that would help. I going to order some hairdressers scissors now before they run out !!

Rebecca5, I've just done mine (yesterday) with semi-permanent Live colour (steel silver) and I'm very pleased with it. It didn't make a dramatic difference as I only used one pack on shoulder - length hair.

My aim was to dye the blonde/mouse bits silver (rather than dying the silver bits blonde, as in the past). It has an ash tone that has neutralised the rather brassy yellow golden bits.

My grown out mousy/silver roots blend in with the rest much better now. Next, I'll try the permanent version! Be brave - now is the ideal time to experiment.
