Slits - or “does my bum look big in this?”

I bought a jumper very similar in both style and colour to Gonegirl's in P*****k for £10 a few weeks ago.

I'd rather pay more for something I really like and could wear for years. As I've got older I'm more likely to look for clothes that are well made and using good quality materials. There's a fantastic shop in Scotland in the middle of nowhere but has become a real destination in itself. There's a lovely food court too. When I see the catalogue I seriously want everything in it! Long lengths? No problem. Slots in the sides of tunics? Got it. Beautiful colours and fabrics? Every time.
It's a bit far for us to go often but every time we've been both DH and I have bought great items that we love. The last thing I bought there was a fitted dinner jacket in pashmina fabric.
I'm not advertising. Check the House of Bruar if you're interested.

Bruar is lovely - if pricey! I haven't been there for a while, must go there with my dd one day.

Oh yes Jane10 -House if Bruar, I always feel I would like to “be” Susan Hampshire in Monarch of the Glen and that is where I would shop!

I think I would be afraid to wash anything from that House of Bruar, all that pure wool, even if I liked anything which I don't. I think it's dire.

I've only bought cotton from there, GoneGirl as I can't wear wool. I'm a bit bored of the last item, a pink jumper, but it seems indestructible and I've been wearing it for years and years, it seems.

You don't like anything at House of Bruar gonegirl?! That's incredible. It's a huge place. They have a back section with ex catalogue clothes that they must have bought up from another stockist. It's all man-made fabrics. You might like that section but it's not for me.
The paradise cake in the food hall is amazing.

Perhaps "dire" was a bit strong Jane10. I mostly looked at knitwear. jumper was nice enough but I'm not convinced anything in pure wool would wash up well enough over time.

Must say I find that pure wool washes very well - as long as you don't do what I did with my new washing machine - no 'just spin' setting, so you have to fiddle and faff with the 'rinse and spin' setting. And I mis-faffed, and a nice new, LONG pure wool jumper, which I'd actually bloody well knitted in expensive yarn, ended up a badly shrunken thing fit only for the bin.
On its first wash, too! There was some very unladylike language, I can tell you.

Keep looking gonegirl there's more than sensible stuff there! I wish you could just go. Its such a great place. The gift gallery and art department are wonderful too.
I wish it wasn't so far away. I want to go now too! It's in the middle of nowhere. A bold move by the owners but it's certainly paid off.

I'd love to go, but I'm afraid our travelling up to Scotland days are over now. Just too much driving for DH.

I have “rediscovered” Woolovers this year and in the light of the warnings about minute fibres shedding in the washing machine am working on weaning myself off cheap man made fibres in favour of wool.
Yes, more expensive, but one woollen jumper instead of two man made fibre items makes sense and if I can “wear” my warmth instead of turning up the heating that has to be a win-win.

Can't imagine doing the washing up with those sleeves. Rubber gloves wouldn't go over them.

I would take a coatigan or big cardi off before doing washing up (if I did washing up!)
