Well I have officially joined the big knicker brigade. I never thought I would but needs must, and I got fed up of constantly putting my hands down my trousers to haul up my briefs blush.
Anyway I did a bit of research, and found some on Amazon with great reviews...and I'm converted ladies. These are made from a good quality cotton (quite thick) with a little lycra for comfort, also with a very deep 2 inch waistband.
They were £18.99 plus postage for a 4 pack. I love them, so just wanted to share with you ?. Now everyone knows what underwear I will have on...oops blush

We also had dark green knickers. Longish legs with elastic in but no pocket.
Wore them with a top for hockey etc. I used to wonder why a man leaning on our fence would be interested in girls playing a game!!!
Aldershot county high.

Bottle Green must have been the trend at the time. I also had them and also with a pocket. What would the girls think of them thesedays. It's all tracksuit bottoms or possibly pleated skirts which I wore in secondary school.

sluttygran I wear Elomi ‘Cate’ bras, they do them in pinky, gold and brown skin colours.

sluttygran Sat 20-Jul-19 09:25:54

I like comfy bras and knickers. My main problem is with colours - we all like nude undies for wearing under white or sheer clothing, but I wish the nude shades were delicate peachy or lilac shades, or shades of coffee for darker skins.
Instead there are a range of sludgey or jaundiced beiges, and mud browns. Very depressing, and enough to make you go back to black or virgin white!

Maybe the old dears had a point Monica

I have been looking for some shorts knickers but M&S only have one and it’s not what I want. ?

Grannycool52 Wed 17-Jul-19 17:37:48

Nice to talk to you, 52 bright.

Grannycool52 Wed 17-Jul-19 17:36:18

aertex shirts

Grannycool52 Wed 17-Jul-19 17:35:37

Yes, I wore the clean white ones everyday underneath too, and we had to do gym in the thick navy ones too. For outside games we had funny pleated shorts things at two of the schools I went to and wrap around skirt at the third, plus the averted shirts. Looks like we were all in the same boat there.

I'm another Sloggis fan - they're sooo comfortable, and last for years..!
I wore navy-blue knickers for school - one pair to last the week (but with a clean white pair underneath every day) confused

Black John Lewis big cotton knickers for me. Comfort is all.

At my all girls grammar we had black cotton sateen bloomers (elasticated legs but no pocket!) worn under rather nice maroon wrap around skirts for games. Just an airtex polo shirt and the dreaded black bloomers for gym though.

Definitely remember trips to Isaac Walton in Newcastle Grannycool52. The windows were full of Back to School displays for a wide variety of uniforms from about early August. Not like now when M and S seem to start full on advertising of uniform before the summer term ends. Much to the annoyance of my teacher daughter who finds it very irritating to be reminded of all she has to do for next term before she is even finished this term and is looking forward to the holidays.

Grannycool52 Tue 16-Jul-19 20:08:19

Anyone from Newcastle remember Raymond Barnes and Isaac Walton, where we got our school navy ones?

Thorntrees Tue 16-Jul-19 15:50:16

I have worn MandS midis for years but have recently discovered Sainsbury’s do packs of all white or a pack of coloured and are cheaper. They fit nicely and seem to wash well so I may be persuaded to change my allegiance- there’s also the bonus of nectar points ?.

NanKate Tue 16-Jul-19 13:55:10

Very well said Oldgaijin ?

LullyDully Tue 16-Jul-19 13:41:05

paperback writer definitely Abernethies in Hounslow , we went upstairs as I remembrance, Len Smith's in Twickenham. You could buy uniform material. Imagine that now. I do remember a Goslings but only the name.

Singlegrannie Tue 16-Jul-19 09:39:15

I used to wear sloggi but now have M & S flexifit, they do matching bras too but I wish they would do more interesting colours.

Paperbackwriter Tue 16-Jul-19 08:44:43

AuntieFlo and Lully - would the Hounslow uniform shop have been Goslings? I seem to remember it as an alternative to Len Smiths of Twickenham for sourcing our Twickenham County school uniform. (Dark brown knickers - don't recall a pocket though!)

M0nica Tue 16-Jul-19 08:36:36

Some of us are beginning to sound like the old dears that tutted about all of us young in the 60s, those short skirts - leaving nothing to the imagination, no better than they ought to be, don't you get cold with all that leg on display.

As a hip 60s chick, I can remember it all.

LullyDully Tue 16-Jul-19 07:57:56

knickers is just what we call panties gmarie

gmarie Tue 16-Jul-19 04:03:13

Oh, my gosh, I LOVE this thread with all of the reminiscing, "girl talk" and the many grin grin grin's! Made me feel like I was at a slumber party or summer camp. grin I'm from the states and haven't heard of any of these brands or undie types except for maybe "knickers" which I've seen and heard of a lot but don't actually have a mental picture of. Some of those comfy cotton brands sound great. Have a hard time finding comfortable, cotton things here in the US. Closest I've come to finding any is with Hanes.

SparklyGrandma Tue 16-Jul-19 00:26:27

Exactly annepl nothing is covered properly, as a woman I cringe for them. Sometimes you can also glimpse clearly feminine hygiene products worn under the tights.
