Anne did marry in Church, she chose to marry in Scotland to have a small family wedding, no dressing up.

I think Charles and Camilla made the right choice, plus Camilla had committed adultery. I haven’t read Megan had ,

Is it because Charles and Anne are real royals and Meghan isn’t, Barmeyoldbat?

The bride looked beautiful the groom looked handsome and the MOB was wonderful and held it together well considering she sitting alone and at such a huge occasion. Victoria Beckham is a waste of space and I hate the pouty look that the female celebs think is so great. I think Zara looked fabulous for someone so close to giving birth but her mother looked aweful. I think Camilla looked lovely she sticks to colours and styles that suit her and was one of my favourites. Elton John's glasses were ridiculous and Beatrice and Euginie look dreadful. Kate looked classy as usual and her mother looked classic and smart Pippa not so much. Overall thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing (did think the pastor went on too long) but like another poster was hoping the gospel choir were going to rock out but a nice change from formal (boring) CofE service. Love the royals just wish HM could sort out her resting bitch face such a sour look

No idea Grandma70, just thought and was told by the Church you can’t marry in the Church if you are divorced, whatever the circumstances, even if one of you has never been married before. You can just have a blessing.

You can in the presbyterian Church ie church of Scotland where Ann remarried. Not sure why Meghan could?

Divorcees can marry in church, it’s up to the priest.

Just checked. Her first wedding was not in church but on a beach in Jamaica. I dont think that counts in the eyes of the CofE!!

I didn’t watch it, but when I saw footage afterwards I thought although the dress was classy, it was too plain. That would have been fine if only she had worn a diamond choker or necklace. Beatrice and Eugenie looked very frumpy and Eugenie’s hat, the same style as Meghan’s mum’s was awful. Terrible style hat. I felt sorry for Meghan’s mum and agree someone should have been there for support as no one from her family was there.
Victoria Beckham looked her usual miserable self and I hate black for weddings. Chewing gum in church is disrespectful to both church and the couple being married.

Just read that the Queen was wearing Suffragette colours. I guess that is her face's resting position didn't realise until an unfortunate photo the other day that my mouth turns down by itself now.

I hate to criticise the queen who I generally admire but it is a shame she looks so cross at many occasions. She has a lovely smile but I think the cross look is her serious face. Surely she knows cameras are on her -would it hurt to smile occasionally? It's not good publicity for her!

BarmeyOldBat, I cannot say why the priest said no, it is up to the priest to decide if the marriage can take place, the church accepts marriages breakdown for numerous reasons , marriage of divorcees is allowed .

What a beautiful wedding, I thought the dress and veil were perfect. It. Was fun watching all the guests arriving in some lovely clothes. Unlike everybody else I thought VB' s outfit was exquisite (smiling in public's obviously not easy for her- please don't be spiteful GNs)

Don't know if any of you who married in the late 1960s noticed but that style plus the long veil was very popular in those years. My wedding dress was exactly like that, a boat neck, the cut of the fabric just falling loosely around the figure with train . My veil was also about five meters with small pearls and guipure flowers sewn into it. Many friends at that time chose this style, then a French design. The figure needs to be tiny to carry it off and I was tiny back them, Those were the days.

Remember, the 1960s were the beginning of a successful fashion industry in Britain and maybe we can resurrect it all again in these classical designs?

sarahellenwhitney Yup, Guess I do need it spelled out. Unless you are saying marrying a young prince is a good thing. A young prince who is a member of a very traditional royal family in another country from your own, knowing your own life is over, no longer can you live it in any kind of autonomous way, that you'll have paparazzi all over you all the time, your career is ended, you won't see your own friends your days will be set out for you by someone else, your husband will be away a lot, you will be with strangers a lot, you will probably be limited even about what you choose to wear, as for stimulating conversations...

endre123 Me too, Married 1969, my dress very similar, made it myself. Actually I preferred mine because it fitted better round the bust, having a curved seam across, but the line was same shape, and made of smooth satin with a boat neck just slightly longer sleeves. I made my veil as well, not as long as the Royal Wedding! But it swept the ground behind. As some have said, I too think Wedding dresses need sleeves because bare shoulders and low bust-lines are not appropriate especially in Church and are really for evening wear or on the beach! I think the sleeves look better too, much more elegant.

There are some great British fashion designers. The young woman who did the wedding gown works for the French couture house Givenchy. Stella McCartney designed the evening gown.
I guess Megan doesn't think her life is over if she is with the man she loves....

Peaseblossom I could't agree more about the gum chewing! It's disgusting! Also, for years V. Beckham has irritated me with her scowl in public. She chose a public life and it's her public who made her rich, the least she could do is be gracious and smile at people, the miserable little skinny spoilt brat. I've watched some more of the wedding now (I couldn't see it at the time) and am quite shocked by a lot of the behaviour of the guests. But then, I didn't have a high opinion of most of the people there in the first place, now I think about who was there. I do like some of them. My favourite right now, of course, is Sheku Kahheh-Mason, the Cellist. So proud the family is here in Nottingham!!! My choir - Nottingham Trent University Choir - were singing at a concert his sister was playing piano at yesterday - same day as wedding.

I enjoyed everything about it. Agree about Amal Clooney, she looked fabulous, my favourite dress of the day after the bride's of course. Couldn't believe it was designed by Stella McCartney who I've never rated, she also did Oprah Winfrey's dress which I thought was a bit too clingy.
The only person I spotted chewing gum was David Beckham, certainly not Meghan if that's what was implied.

Yes i was married in the 60s ad it did occur to me that the dress was sililar to mine except mine had a high neck and log sleeves. Veil was different too.
I think Diana started the trend for frilly 'meringues' in the 80s.

I still don't see them as an obvious couple. Not that I know her though. Well, not that we really know Harry, but I just think they aren't similar enough to sustain a life together and raise kids and fight off the outside world... But I don't know, do I?

pollyperkins I agree. I don't criticise the Queen whom I admire. But she looked so incredibly cross! Actually I wondered if her age was telling on her. She does do an awful lot for a lady of her age and maybe her legs ached or she just felt very tired. Perhaps she needs a bit of TLC. I thought Prince Philip looked at her with a worried expression once. He does amazingly well.

What a lovely Wedding it was, everything went so well. Meghan looked radiant, her dress was plain but elegant.The little page boys were superb, together with those cute little bridesmaids.
As for Victoria Beckham, the miserable s - d she looked as though she was going to a funeral, not a Royal Wedding.
The York girls looked so old fashioned, but at least they didnt wear outlandish hats like when William and Kate got married. Nodody could out do Meghan it was a wonderful day,I wish the happy couple all the best for their future.
