Winter Wedding in Scotland - what to wear?!

a dress and jacket suit with a wrap over it,castles are centrally heated nowadays ,so you'll be warm indoors .My daughter has been married twice in January and it was a beautiful sunny day both times ,in the west of Scotland ,you'll maybe need an umbrella though its a bit wet just now

How about a nice fur muff to keep your hands warm? Much prettier than gloves.

I bought a lined dress and matching jacket for my sons wedding it was in a blush pink with diamanté around the neck of the dress so looked lovely from day into evening, I wore shoes that had a low heel for confort though, i couldn’t be wearing high heels all day.

I went to a wedding last November and ignored the fact it was winter. I wore a cream dress with short sleeves with cerise pink,blue and lemon flowers ,it was lacy but lined. I teamed it with cerise pink shoes,bag,fascinator and pashmina. I felt nice and bright and not cold at all.

Thank you all for your kind suggestions! Yes, I think perhaps velvet (very 'on trend'!) and a pashmina is the way to go... will have a think and a look around.

Aside, I have been to 'castle weddings' and normally the hall is warm, don't know about the beds and electric blankets.

Loads of draughty stairs etc, maybe even spiders.

It will be an occasion to remember, for various reasons

We have two small castles nearby who both do the full wedding - ceremony and reception - and believe me they are both toasty warm inside. I have to admit that I have also been to an outdoor ceremony (Dumbarton Castle) and although it was high summer it was ruddy perishing - so required a warm coat over a summer dress for the indoor reception. You should check out your castle before deciding.

Thermal long johns! I got married in Scotland in June and it was FREEZING. I think several layers are your best bet, then you can strip off a couple as you strip the willow at the evening ceilidh.

Lots of velvet in the shops. I can recommend Hobbs velvet knee length dresses there is a beautiful one called Agnes (sorry unable to do the link at the moment) its A line and with a subtle print. A nice pashmina and thick tights would look and feel very cosy.

Scottish castles are cold even in summer so definitely dress for warmth, maybe with layers, so you can peel off if the ceileidh dancing gets over-energetic!

I'd go for either trousers or thick tights on my lower half. As noted, a pashmina is an essential, too.

Something light and sparkly so that underneath you can wear a sheer silk vest (and maybe even silk leggings)! If you need to slip it off it is small enough to roll up into your bag. Being cold is worse than anything and castles are draughty even when centrally heated.

To go Debenhams and ask for personal shopper they are fabulous and bring lots of items to get you a full outfit

I went to my nephew’s wedding in February a couple of years ago. It wasn’t in a castle and we weren’t outdoors much - just for one photo, I think. I wore black velvet trousers and a top with red and gold in it, slightly sparkly. There were all sorts of outfits, but only the mothers of the bride and groom wore anything really formal, complete with hats.

It depends how formal the wedding is, I suppose. Velvet is always good, and very flattering.
