Bought anything new in the last week?

Some really nice things.
I like the sound of jumper dresses BUT am not tall enough to carry it off( never mind the slim enough!)I have enough scarves already to sink a battleship, don't need more undies, am tempted by the Masons green design,we have some of the old Fruit Basket Masons( but the green is nicer.)

May have to look at those navy needlecord trousers in M&S though, and do need slippers, sheepskin seem to be popular on here?
Never had a cashmere jumper, always baulk at the price!

We also need Halloween masks, hope we haven't left it too late, as DGS expects us for tea every Halloween, and remembers if we use last years!

Haven't had the chance to go shopping. How sad is that?

I bought some thick grey leggings and a heattech navy long sleeved top for layering from Uniqglo which together cost £25. I also took a top back to Cos which I had bought a couple of weeks ago for £45 which I had worn twice and washed following the instructions, but it went really bobbly and looked ghastly so I got my money back. Whilst I was there I had a look at the sale rail and bought an oversized grey sweater dress and white baggy top for £50 thus cancelling out my refund. These are all casual things I can wear everyday. I am on the lookout for some boots now.

I must ask about tights..... Where do you find the ones that you like?Do you buy the thicker ribbed/patterned or opaque?

I stopped at the wonderful Tebay Services on my way south last week and managed to leave with a lovely White Stuff jumper - mid blue with bird motifs and also a reversible stripey top from Seasalt. Well. I did have a 10% off voucher and it really had to be used

I bought 2 pairs of Jeans from M & S on line after the recommendations from Gransnet about how good they are. Thanks, those who recommend they're great.

I've ordered sheepskin 'proper' slippers on line because my ankle gets very painful as soon as the weather gets colder, and my usual slippers and socks don't do the trick.

I buy my opaque tights from John Lewis, they are blissfully soft, wash very well and seem to last forever. I have them in 40, 60 and 100 denier.

I bought a soup maker after reading about them on the forum. I have made pea and mint soup (delicious, even though it should have had ham in it too - I couldn't be bothered going and buying some) carrot and coriander (delicious), potato, leek and garlic (haven't tasted it yet) and chunky celery and pickled onion (a bit odd).

I also bought a book on clicker training, a clicker and a bag of kitty treats, as my DGC have just acquired two kittens. Last week I was at a fascinating talk on how the zoo trains animals to come when called, present a paw or open a mouth to be checked, and lie down and roll over to order. Not as tricks but to let the vet or keeper inspect them and treat any problems. Better than anaesthetising them every time. Seeing a rhino lie down, roll on its side and present its hooves one at a time on request was impressive. Then there was the gelada, a biggish and rather aggressive primate, who was found to have diabetes 1 - he needs daily insulin injections and urine tests. He got emergency lessons - no time for the slow learn - and in a few days learnt how to put his arm out for the needle, and to pee to order.

I shall demonstrate on the children with a bag of Haribo for treats, then we'll move on to the kitties.

I love stationary too Blodyn . Not the boring kind I use at work everyday but the pretty journals and books from Paperchase and the likes. I always have a good quality "journal" on the go. My DGC love stationary too and they love the little story books from Paperchase where you can write a story and draw a picture to go with it. A real treat to buy those too.

I have bought sweaters from Aliexpress.com, a sort of Chinese eBay that my son introduced me to. It's a fascinating site to browse and works well (the sweater sellers are from factories so the prices are very good and I've found the quality good too). It is a bit of a risk ordering from another country (I look for sellers with free postage to the UK and good feedback) and it takes 3 or 4 weeks for orders to arrive but, apart from my first purchase (a cheap quilted jacket) when I hadn't quite got my head around being a size XL in Chinese sizing (I'm a UK 12), I've been happy with my winter buys. I ordered one more item, a cashmere cardigan, this week but now I have to stay away from the site so I don't get tempted!

loopylou At the very least, trying to get the kittens to behave will show the DGC what it is like from the other side for their parents.

Long blue cardigan - merino/cashmere - from Woolovers. I also have a navy one. They wash well and I de-bobble them with a nifty battery-powered gadget bought from Amazon. Apart from those, I bought three small cyclamen on offer at a local garden centre and positioned them on the outside window sill of my back room.

Last week in England - a navy wool/cashmere Max Mara coat (like new) in the charity shop, 4 long t-shirts in Gap sale, socks and a colouring book.
At home in France this week - Italian wine and cheese in Lidl.

I would a white Stuff jade green dress in JL yesterday and some Clarins cleanser and a new pressed powder compact - the assistant gave me some lovely freebies- she appraised me with her 25 year olds' concern for the elderly and recommended the Extra Firming Neck cream for me! .

This morning I used the M & S 20% off to order some black trousers for golf, a charcoal roll neck and some moleskins for DH.

Sometimes outlets or stores such as TK Maxx have cashmere jumpers, but you have to search. I found a nice Scottish-made one last year at Labels oh no, it's beige, well more a dark camel

I am going to browse this thread properly when I get home, going out now and feeling very frumpy.

I did, however, take a huge bag of clothes to the charity shop and about six pairs of shoes. It's a start!

Yes, the Clarin's girl queried my request for my usual moisturiser, examined my skin and advised a different one for 'mature skin' which may get rid of the age spot on my face.
It cost a fortune, but luckily I did have a voucher someone had given me which went halfway towards it!

I bought a big bag of assorted Hallowe'en treats for my grandsons. I'm helping my daughter move house next Friday, so a fair amount of upheaval...and we want to make sure that the boys don't miss out on the festivities...Also that their Hallowe'en outfits travel in my car, so that they're to hand...along with other essentials

I'm coasting towards a hip op in November so I bought some wide legged black velour pull on trousers like track suit bottoms for comfort and two short fleece dressing gowns one in beige and one in plum all from M&S . I'm not sure about tops. Anyone who has had a hip done might kindly give me advice on clothes post op. I've read the hip and knee thread. Also bought some Neutrogena rainbath which I love and don't seem to be able to get here.

Updated my mobile phone on Friday. I feel more modern now.
